Kevin Faulconer could defeat Newsom, if 2022 is a R wave year.

As long as we can get Governor Edmonson.

An unfortunate prediction, but likely accurate.

California's actually a state where I could one day see a third-party centrist type be able to win a state-wide election. If we get to the point where people are tired of the Democrat because of attrition/scandal/bad performance and the GOP brand continues to be pile of toxic waste, I could see a third-party or independent rich dude running on a Conservative Party of Canada-style platform (with local adjustments, e.g. oil) be able to win enough in the suburbs to break through to the top two and be competitive in the general.

Eventually they will find another movie star and California will have a Republican Governor.

It's hard to see a Republican Governor happening in the near future given how resistant California is to the national GOP brand, as well as the state GOP not being in the greatest shape.

That said, I can't completely rule out an unpopular Bevin-type incumbent or a future where the two parties' platforms/constituencies change massively. Those scenarios are the only way forward for the CA GOP.

Cali is running a 7 billion dollar surplus. It may have its issues, but its elected officials do not seem to be one of them.
