Well?

Personally, I think maybe Chandler and Edelen.

Definitely Adkins. Chandler is a maybe. The other two, probably not.

Edelen was the only one of the three primary candidates who would have almost certainly lost.

Adkins almost certainly would have won — turnout might have been a bit less strong in the cities (though I doubt the margins would have really been reduced), but that would have likely been made up for with gains in coal country, where he would have done even better than Beshear. As it was Beshear was palatable enough to both urban and rural voters to win. But Edelen just had no path. Too far left unlike Adkins, couldn’t even win his 2015 election unlike Beshear, whose name also helped him.

As for Chandler, he’s been out of politics for too long and is one of only two Democrats to lose a governor election to a Republican in this century. Jim Gray probably wouldn’t win statewide even against Bevin, but I do think he would win KY-06.

Maybe Rocky. He probably would’ve done even better in Eastern KY, but might not have gotten Beshear’s numbers in Jefferson and Fayette. I doubt anyone else would have won.

Adkins would have done better than Beshear. Everyone else probably would have lost.

I don't think any of them. Adkins wouldn't see the large urban and suburban turnout for Beshear. Sure he'd do better in places like Elliott County and eastern Kentucky, but those places aren't populated enough to make up the difference.

Don't know how much of the urban/suburban turnout was for Beshear as it is anti-Trump/Bevin.  I mean he ran a fine campaign but I don't know that Rocky would have turned them off in any way.

The county map would have looked nicer.
