I have genuinely converted from being a Republican to being independent. Last year I was rooting for the Democrats to take control of the House, voted for my incumbent Democratic Representative, voted for an Independent for US Senate, and for a couple of Republicans further down the ballot. I resent the quote.

I tend to think most people who describe themselves as independents will usually vote straight-ticket for one party, to use a stretched example, Bernie has always supported the Democratic nominee and been caucusing with the Democrats since he entered Congress.
