If Democrats buck the national and state trend and win Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana, what does it say?

That they ran good campaigns with the right kind of people in the right places. However, it's very unlikely this happens and Democrats are lucky if they keep the Governor's Manion in Baton Rouge.

In any outcome, it does not say much about 2020.

They ran stellar candidates who ran stellar campaigns that successfully ran on local issues and avoided national politics in Trump country.

The goalposts will be moved as usual and people will say that the fact that Democrats didn’t win any or all of these races by double digits proves that "polarization" is at an all-time high.

With Biden, Dems, it is a 303 election and Trump is at risk in OH. If Warren is the nominee, PA is at risk and it's a 278 election,  winning in Appalachia again, doesnt bold well for Trump. Who needs WI, in order to win

It would suggest that gubernatorial races are still winnable for Democrats in red states (under the right conditions.)

Similarly, I'm curious what it would say if I became a starting shortstop for the Yankees next year, which is about as likely as Beshear winning in Kentucky.

Democrats won't win Mississippi. Winning kentucky is slightly possible but would still be a big surprise. If Bevin loses it wouldn't suggest anything about 2020, it'd just say he was a terrible governor and politician (and tbh he probably is regardless).

It wouldn't say much of anything other than that gubernatorial race results can continue to diverge from their federal partisan leanings under the right circumstances.

Agree with everything here. I would also add: Republicans ran bad candidates in all 3 races (perhaps different Republican candidates would've defeated any of the 3 Dems).

If Dems won all three races, it wouldn't say much about the national political environment because they didn't focus their campaigns on national issues.

Very Little for 2020. At most, it would indicate a serious chance of beating Mcconnell.

Not pretending there's any chance it would happen, but if it did, it would be read as a sign that Republican turnout cratered because Trump wasn't on the ballot while Dems new and old were still motivated and turned out. So not likely to be a message for 2020 even if it did happen.

Kentucky has far more union members than Mississippi or Louisiana.

I’m pretty versatile in Fantasyland (the place where Kentucky is winnable for Democrats.)

I lost KY in a romp in June, but carried it overwhelmingly in October. KY is a very elastic state!

Should be noted that no party has won all 3 races in the past 30 years.

The Republicans have pretty mediocre candidates this year, so it cannot be ruled out either.

Still, it wouldn’t mean anything really.

I’d say Rocky Adkins probably jumps into the KY Sen race against McConnell next year if this was the case
