The Autonomous Region of Bougainville (currently part of Papua New Guinea) will be holding a referendum later this month and into next month to choose between increased autonomy or independence.

The question for voters is as follows:
Quote
Do you agree for Bougainville to have: (1) Greater Autonomy (2) Independence?

This is a non-binding referendum and results are expected around December 20th.

The weirdest/funniest thing was Bertie Ahern being head of the Bougaineville Referendum Commission. So random.

At the very least they should have kept him waiting in the wings for the New Ireland independence referendum next door.
