On the paper Kansas has barely trended either way since 2014, democrats are still badly outnumbered, Republicans have still a roughly 20 points advantage over democrats, but it’s interesting to note that when looking at individual counties, there are some big changes, most notably in Johnson county where democrats have made big inroads

In summary: the GOP netted 4k votes, while their statewide advantage (%) shrank from 20.1 to 19.5 points.

Presumably that means quite a number of GOP -> Indy defections that the data doesn't bother highlighting.

Why are Republicans nationwide gaining in registration numbers when they've been bleeding actual support for years?

The same reason your state still has a Democratic voter registration advantage despite being Titanium R.
