The KT event asteroid approaches its impact 65 million years ago. However, instead of hitting the shallow, coastal waters as in real life, the asteroid smashes into deep ocean. The rock crashes through the sea, boiling it instantly around the impact zone, & smashes into the Earth. However, the miles of sea have absorbed enough energy to reduce the global effects of the impact. Giant waves radiate out for thousands of miles, slowly losing energy, & by the time they reach coastlines, they're much weaker. The global ecosystem is hit badly, animals & plants suffer from mass die-offs across the world; however, as the smoke lifts, the dinosaurs have survived. Mammals never take over the world, meaning no humans, as dinosaurs evolve further into new species. In what would be 2019 AD, dinosaurs very different to those we know inhabit the world. The world ecosystem has limped through the disaster behind it.
