Nikki Haley, Former SC Governor and UN Ambassador, beats former Vice President Pence, Senator Cruz, Senator Rubio, Senator Ernst, and Governor Baker in the primaries. She chooses Governor Paul advance, who was elected two years prior, as her running mate - a compromise candidate who was rumored to privately back Ernst or Baker in the primaries. Haley’s convention is split into several days & parts; Rubio, Cruz, Carson, Pence, and Trump speak on the first day; Kasich, Baker, Hogan, Romney, and Sandoval (new Senator) speak on the second day; Lisa Murkowski, Condoleezza Rice, Joni Ernst, and Leslie Rutledge (new Governor) speak on the third day. Kasich is granted the keynote speech, Cruz introduces Ryan, and Ernst introduces Haley. Haley calls Ryan “The most overqualified candidate for Vice President ever,” and, due to the long primary fight, has said she will likely only serve one term.

At Sanders’s convention, AOC, Joe Kennedy, Ro Khanna, John Bel Edwards, Gavin Newsom, and Attorney General Stacey Abrams give the most notable speeches, and Barack and Michelle Obama give the keynote speeches, in what DNC Chair Pete Buttigieg allegedly called “The first Convention not starring the Clintons in the main role since 1988.” Sanders’s efforts to block the speeches of JBE & Newsom in favor of more Justice Democrats are eventually halted when Chair Buttigieg finds new allies on the issue of party unity in Chief of Staff Faiz Shakir and Press Secretary Zack Exley, overruling the likes of Senior Advisors Jeff Weaver and Robert Reich.

The economy isn’t doing great - 7.4% unemployment, the S&P 500 is at 15,300(down 49.4% since a year ago at its peak), GDP growth rate is at 1.8%, and the inflation rate is now at 3.4%. (Statistics for September of 2024). However, public college is now tuition-free(although for the next few years, that cost is ~90% shouldered by the states), the Social Security Tax & Medicare tax combined is 6.5% after the cap of $130,000, the minimum wage is now $10.50 after months of negotiations and voting, and, alongside some military cuts and tax increases, the deficit is ~$204 billion. Sanders’ new altered Medicare-For-All Plan, stalled in a 58 R Senate and 223 R House, would, however, increase this by $500 billion.
