While everyone is screeching about Chelsea Clinton, literal Republican David Carlucci (IDC-NY) is considering a run.

I think we know who the real enemy of the people is in this race.

This seat is Safe Democratic in 2020. It would only flip Republican in a major wave (and a particular kind of wave), and that is definitely not going to happen next year. This is exactly the kind of district that has trended strongly towards Democrats in recent years.
Carlucci is a Democrat who caucused with Republicans in the NY State Senate.

inb4 Chelsea Clinton announces the dynasty's continuation.

If Clinton entered this race I'd seriously volunteer all of my spare time to campaign for her primary opponent(s). What a disgrace it would be to have her in the House.

Really? All the problems in our country and your main goal is devoting all your spare time to keeping some lady from being one member out of 435 who will vote the way you prefer 90% of the time anyway because you dislike her last name? Roll Eyes

Great example of why the left is horrendous at politics.
Forgive me for appropriating black America's racial insults, but Chelsea Clinton is the ultra-Becky.

Worth pointing out that Lowey is the Appropriations Chair. She leads the House's most powerful committee. Maybe we'll have an Appropriations Chair who is under 80 next time.

And yeah, she's #14 in overall seniority. Between 2018 and 2020, there's going to be overall a huge generational shift in terms of seniority in the House.

The #2 Democrat on Appropriations, in both experience and seniority, is my Congresswoman, Marcy Kaptur. She's 73 so, yes, the next Appropriations Chair will be under 80 Tongue .

It matters to me who represents my district. It should matter to you too.

I can only speak for myself, but I would not feel as though the interests of working people are being represented if said elected official is someone who was born into astounding wealth and privilege, was handed six-figure positions due to her family's notoriety, and hasn't indicated any sort of willingness to connect with the communities in the district she would, in theory, be representing. She's an all around unappealing figure and I truly hope she stays far away from Lowey's seat.

Carlucci is awful as well. We're allowed to dislike both of these people.

You actually think she was born into wealth?  Really how much do you actually know about her background?  Just the caricature that you've constructed because you hate the Clinton's?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I read somewhere that Lowey had ambitions of running for the Senate some two decades ago, but was effectively foreclosed from doing so when Hillary Clinton carpet-bagged into the state and took the seat. If this is true, then I pray that Chelsea Clinton doesn't carpetbag to this seat and scoop up her House seat.

This is true. Lowey was the favorite, but essentially got shoved out of the race when Clinton decided she wanted it.

No fan of the Clinton dynasty either, but Chelsea Clinton is preferable to another member of the JDs, especially given how their brigades tried to harass her over her base-level opposition to antisemitism earlier this year.

When she was born her father was a Governor, her mother was a partner at a law firm and futures trader and both of her parents were Yale educated lawyers. Yes she was born into wealth.

I can agree with you that Chelsea would be preferable to the Justice Democrats. We already have enough trouble as it is with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (and with Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar as well), and I certainly would not want her to gain an ally. Chelsea, despite the fact that she is a unqualified "heir force general", is pretty much a generic establishment liberal, just like her parents. Policy-wise, she won't do us more harm than what is already being done.

...a Governor and Yale educated partner at a law firm aren't wealthy?

I'm not saying they were on the level of Trump's upbringing or Bush's, but most certainly not middle class.

Which is what? Fearing a "conservative" Democratic challenger more than the woman who would be nothing without her parents?

That while everyone is hand-wringing about The Return of the Clintons, a "Democrat" who literally sold out the party to gain more power for himself went unchallenged.

While I could never be as fervent in my defense of Chelsea Clinton as Jerry or IceSpear will be, I'm not going to sit here and ignore the wolf in sheep's clothing (who sounds like he's jumping in if she doesn't).

Preferably, we will have neither (as I definitely don't support greedy, power-hungry politicians). However, I've made clear elsewhere on this thread that I would prefer Chelsea Clinton over another AOC-type clone.

Carlucci is a literal traitor to the Democrats, not just someone who has one or two conservative positions. There's no comparison to anything Chelsea Clinton has done.

Nita Lowey was also a potential candidate to replace Hillary Clinton when she was picked to be Secretary of State, but she passed on the opportunity because of her position in the Appropriations Committee.

I wonder how many representatives that were first elected in the eighties are going to be left in January 2021.

Chris Smith, Steny Hoyer, and Nancy Pelosi are the ones that I can think of, off the top of my head. Smith announced that he was running for reelection a month or two ago. I don't know about Hal Rogers, who is another retirement possibility, nor am I sure about John Lewis, though my guess is that he is running for reelection. Besides these five, Lowey, Richard Neal, and Eliot Engel, who else was first elected in the 1980s? That may be all of them. And of course, we still have the Dean of the House, Don Young, who is running for reelection, and will be the only remaining Representative elected in the 1970s once Sensenbrenner leaves office.

Apparently Assemblyman David Buchwald is the first major establishment candidate to be in. Seemingly running on a continuation of Lowey.

E: He also wrote the tax return bill, so that's cool.
