November 6, 2017 - Entrepreneur Andrew Yang announces his candidacy for President of the United States

So, who is Andrew Yang? Well, Yang is the second Democrat to announce his candidacy for President, after Congressman John Delaney. Yang is only 44 years old and is from New York. After founding many failed startups, he finally found his way with Venture for America (VFA). VFA focuses on creating jobs in struggling communities across America. Yang was selected as a Champion of Change in 2012 and a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship in 2015, both by then-President Barack Obama. He has also authored a book, Smart People Should Build Smart Things. Yang probably doesn’t have shot to win the primary, but he will still have a voice.

The 5th Democratic debate is upon us. With no candidates dropping out since New York Mayor Bill de Blasio on September 20, 2019, the Democratic National Committee has decided to hold 3 different debates. There will be an undercard debate or candidates polling at or under 1%, and then 1 big debate for every other candidate.

Undercard Debate:

Michael Bennet - U.S. Senator from Colorado
Steve Bullock - Governor of Montana
Julian Castro - Former HUD Secretary
John Delaney - Former U.S. Representative from Maryland
Wayne Messam - Mayor of Miramar, FL
Tim Ryan - U.S. Representative from Ohio
Joe Sestak - Former U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania
Tom Steyer - Hedge fund manager
Marianne Williamson - Author

Stage position:

Messam | Ryan | Delaney | Bullock | Castro | Bennet | Steyer | Williamson | Sestak

Main Debate:

(In order of polls)

Joe Biden - Former Vice President of the United States
Elizabeth Warren - U.S. Senator from Massachusetts
Bernie Sanders - U.S. Senator from Vermont
Pete Buttigieg - Mayor of South Bend, IN
Kamala Harris - U.S. Senator from California
Beto O’Rourke - Former U.S. Representative from Texas
Andrew Yang - Entrepreneur
Cory Booker - U.S. Senator from New Jersey
Amy Klobuchar - U.S. Senator from Minnesota
Tulsi Gabbard - U.S. Representative from Hawaii

Stage position:

Gabbard | Booker | O’Rourke | Buttigieg | Warren | Biden | Sanders | Harris | Yang | Klobuchar

November 6, 2019 - 5th Democratic Presidential Debate (pt. 2)

US Democratic Party Logo
Gringer [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons

Cooper: The undercard debate just took place and as we’re getting ready for the main debate, let’s take a look back at the performances of the candidates in the undercard debate:

Debate scores (out of 10):

Castro: 9
Ryan: 7
Bennet: 6.7
Bullock: 6.5
Williamson: 6.4
Delaney: 6.2
Steyer: 6
Sestak: 5.3
Messam: 2

Julian Castro led the debate using his prior experience to propel him to the top. Tim Ryan did surprisingly well. Michael Bennet, Steve Bullock, Marianne Williamson, John Delaney and Tom Steyer all were mediocre. Joe Sestak and Wayne Messam did not perform well in their first debate appearances.

We’re just getting word of an announcement from the Democratic National Committee:

”It is with great sadness we report the death of Bernie Sanders. Bernie served his country with pride with over 30 years of public service. The entire Democratic National Committee gives their condolences to the Sanders family. Tonight’s main debate will be postponed.

Wow. This is shocking to say the least. CNN gives out their condolences to the Sanders family during this tough time. Tonight’s debate is postponed until next week.

All of the candidates sent out statements of condolence, with Elizabeth Warren crying in a press conference over the loss of her close friend and colleague.

The debate has been rescheduled for next week.

November 13, 2019 - 5th Democratic Presidential Debate (pt. 3)

US Democratic Party Logo
Gringer [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons

A very, very somber debate took place on November 13 between the main Democratic candidates. It started out with a tribute video to Bernie Sanders, narrated by Hillary Clinton. Then, the candidates went back to debating. Julian Castro, who performed so well in the undercard debate, took Bernie’s place in the debate.

Debate scores (out of 10):

Warren: 9
Yang: 8
Biden: 7
Buttigieg: 7
Klobuchar: 6.6
Castro: 6.1
Gabbard: 6.1
O’Rourke: 6
Harris: 5.5
Booker: 3

Post-debate polls:

Joe Biden: 25%
Elizabeth Warren: 22%
Pete Buttigieg: 12%
Andrew Yang: 10%
Kamala Harris: 8%
Tulsi Gabbard: 5%
Beto O'Rourke: 5%
Amy Klobuchar: 3%
Julian Castro: 2%
Cory Booker: 1%
All Others: 7%

After an awful debate performance, Senator Cory Booker has withdrawn from the race. He has been polling at very low numbers since his campaign announcement, and has struggled to raise funds. He did not say who he was endorsing, but he did say that he would support the nominee, whomever it may be

Joe Sestak, Former U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania (November 18, no endorsement)
John Delaney, Former U.S. Representative from Maryland (November 19, no endorsement)
Marianne Williamson, Author (November 21, endorsed Elizabeth Warren)

Also, new polls for the primary came out on December 1:

Elizabeth Warren: 22% (-)
Pete Buttigieg: 14% (+2)
Andrew Yang: 13% (+3)
Kamala Harris: 10% (+2)
Beto O'Rourke: 5% (-)
Tulsi Gabbard: 3% (-2)
Amy Klobuchar: 2% (-1)
Julian Castro: 1% (-1)
All Others: 7% (-)

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttgieg, Senator Kamala Harris and Former Representative Beto O’Rourke have ended their campaigns for President of the United States in the 2020 Democratic primary. After 3 poor performances on Super Tuesday, all three candidates see no path forward. Senator Harris and Fmr. Rep. O’Rourke lost both of their home states (California and Texas), and Mayor Buttgieg won the state of Utah, but did not gain many overall delegates. None of the three candidates have endorsed, but they will be highly sought out by the three remaining candidates: Andrew Yang, Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden.

My guess...

Harris endorses Warren

Beto endorses Biden

Buttigieg endorses Yang

Dude, for the tenth time, you have to link to the file's page, not just the file.

March 8, 2020 - 10th Democratic Presidential Debate

The 10th Democratic Debate will take place ahead of the March 10 primaries in Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota and Washington. There will only be 3 participants in tonight’s debate: Mr. Andrew Yang, former Vice President Joe Biden, and Senator Elizabeth Warren. Mr. Yang will be in the center, with Vice President Biden to his left and Senator Warren to his right.

Debate Performances:

Andrew Yang: A

Andrew Yang did well, as always, in this debate. He hit on his three main points of his campaign, and had good rebuttals to Warren and Biden’s attack. Yang also put major emphasis on automation and stopping the 4th Industrial Revolution from taking away so many jobs. This will help him in the rust belt for sure.

Joe Biden: B-

Biden was on the attack all of the debate, but was shut down by Yang most of the time.

Elizabeth Warren: D

Warren was quiet and planned to go on the defense, but could not defend from Biden and Yang’s attacks. It looks like this may symbolize the beginning of the end for her campaign.

Unfortunate news from Brooklyn, NY this morning, as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg passed away at the age of 86 from old age. She lived a great life with contributions unparalleled by many. Her spot will be filled by President Donald Trump, which will be his 3rd appointment to the highest court in the land.
