Bad writer. Somewhat decent director. Overall horrible though for making the worst 'Star Wars' movie since Episode II.

The only reason I said that is just because I find Episodes I and II slightly more boring and worse in terms of movie qualities like acting and special effects than VIII. III is way better than VIII though, so I'm not a total prequel hater.

Talented director, hit-or-miss writer.  Every post-Empire Strikes Back Star Wars movie has been crap, although his was especially bad.

The Last Jedi was as a standalone film better than Eps I and II, but was overall worse in how it fits in Star Wars canon and damaged the overall narrative.

HP. I liked Brick, Looper, and the episodes of Breaking Bad that he directed, but strongly dislike The Last Jedi, and that overrides everything else.

Not really. I mean maybe the narrative is technically better because it's a bit more linear, and maybe the acting is better...but the rest pales in comparison to Phantom Menace...even on the merits as a film alone.

And Episode II easily had a better stand-alone narrative than either I or VIII. It wasn't well executed, but it was there.

That said, he's [Johnson] a one-trick pony, and it's not even that great a trick. Trevorrow is better.

I mean, he made one godawful movie but that's not enough to judge a person's moral standing. Didn't vote.

Yeah when you are in a series, that is more important, how it fits in the universe. And that is why Last Jedi is the second worst -only losing to Solo-

Brick and Brother's Bloom are good and Last Jedi isn't nearly as bad as people say. At least he did something different instead of a bunch of fanservice like TFA and Rogue One.

Brick and Brother's Bloom are good and Last Jedi isn't nearly as bad as people say. At least he did something different instead of a bunch of fanservice like TFA and Rogue One.

While he did do something different, those "different" things amounted to being completely pointless: Leia being blasted out of the ship only to return seconds later in a truly silly moment, Poe's subplot, Finn and Rose's subplot, teasing Rey and Kylo Ren teaming up, Captain Phasma's entire existence, Luke's astral projection death (why not just have him die on Krait?). That's my real overall issue with the film. Johnson took a lot of material and made it into near-nothingness.

The fan ideas I've seen post-Force Awakens were far more interesting than what we got in Episode VIII, but I could leave all that aside since fan ideas rarely come to fruition, I didn't have the expectation of seeing those come to life, but I did expect to see at least some satisfying payoff. So to get such worthless developments out of the film, even if they "subvert" others' expectations made for a viewing experience that was far more frustrating than it was entertaining. Being "different" can only get you so far.

The stupidest thing about TLJ is the opening which consists of DROPPING BOMBS IN SPACE.

I disagree. The dumbest part was Luke drinking that milk

NOW scientific accuracy is a problem in star wars? This has to be one of the weirdest movie complaints I've ever seen. Like, you don't care about fiery explosions in space, but dropping bombs grinds your gears?

Imo the stupidest thing about that movie is that Holdo was apparently the first person in the galaxy to consider the possibility of ramming another spaceship in hyperspace. Since that's now an option, I don't see why it wouldn't happen in any battle (possibly with droid-controlled ships), which in turn would make larger ships completely worthless.

And even then, if I were to ignore that scientific inaccuracy and just suspend my disbelief, there is still the problem of why they designed the bombers as being so slow and defenseless. What happened to Y-wings? They were able to bomb things while being faster and more capable of not needing to be escorted.

Honestly, I can get past the bombs, flying Leia, the milk, the astral projection, Rey Nobody... there is no single "thing" that ruined The Last Jedi. It's just a mess in its entirety because the scope of the movie was just so small. We still haven't seen anything about the state of the galaxy. The technology exists to take the audience anywhere, and instead we got a slow-speed chase in space and side plots that went nowhere.
