Hundreds of thousands of retirees who only voted for Nelson because he’s an old astronaut and "moderate" + one million Cubans/Venezuelans/Puerto Ricans who haven’t realized the destructive effects of socialism yet but surely will in due time

Trump/Nelson/DeSantis is an older R-leaning retiree who has been retired since at least 2006 with fond memories of Bill Nelson/a strong admiration for astronauts.  Trump/Nelson/Gillum is much harder.  An otherwise lifelong Dem Mar-a-Lago member who is close friends with Trump?

A friend of me who i convinced to vote for Gillum and Nelson but secretly likes Trump and was eligible to vote for the first time in 2018. But she now says she will vote for Trump. They're not that rare. If i'd live in Florida, i can imagine myself voting like that. Esp. if Biden wins.

I'm working on it, although I haven't endorsed Trump 2020 yet.

Why did you support Gillum? Did you support Murphy in 2016 and Crist in 2010? (I am just wondering?)

Why did you support Gillum? Did you support Murphy in 2016 and Crist in 2010? (I am just wondering?)

I supported Crist in 2010.  I voted for Rubio at the last minute in 2016, as I found Murphy, in the end, to be a weasel.  The only time I voted GOP for Governor of FL was for Jeb Bush in 1998.

As to why I supported Gillum:  It was a choice of the lesser of two (2) evils.  I viewed DeSantis as Rick Scott's Third Term, and I view Rick Scott who would sell off the entire public sector to his campaign contributors, without regard for Florida's need for a safety net.  Florida has one of the worst Safety Nets in the nation, and Rick Scott is the reason why.  It also has some of the neediest people with the least amount of family support needed, and its school systems are a disgrace.

In his first Inaugural Address, Rick Scott said:  "Prosperity comes from the Private Sector.  ONLY from the Private Sector."  And I do agree with that, but prosperity is rarely evenly distributed.  My response to such a statement would be:  "Stability come from the Public Sector.  ONLY from the Public Sector."  Florida needs a public sector that will mitigate its many social ills and prevent it from becoming a Third World State.

Andrew Gillum has some understanding of that, and for that, I voted for him.  After voting for him, I threw up, knowing that he embraced some of the most irresponsible SJW doctrines imaginable.  Even there, I concluded that Gillum would at least provide some check and balance to some of the ridiculous actions of some of Florida's Sheriffs and Prosecutors.  Gillum might have even been willing to push legislation to take away the decision to prosecute juveniles as adults from Prosecutors (who, IMO, cannot be trusted to be fair on this issue) and into the hands of Judges, where it belongs.  It was a matter of doing the best I could with my vote, as Gillum is awful on a range of social issues.  DeSantis has been a better Governor than I thought he'd be on a significant range of issues, but his role in trying to undo the Constitutional Amendment providing for the restoration of voting rights for those previously convicted of a felony that have served their sentences is an utter disgrace, and I am unable to vote for his reelection so long as this is his posture.

A Few questions:

- I thought Adam Putnam was running to be Scott's third term while DeSantis was running to be the Trump of Florida

-  Why didnt you vote for Jeb in 2002, wasnt his first term considered an overwhelming success

-  On the issue of schooling , Oregon has been dominated by liberals for a long time but its still one of the worst in the nation as well.  Didnt Florida adopt Texas's model which has been a success

- On the voting rights part , isnt court mandated fines part of the sentence which means the sentence hasnt been fully carried out until the fines are paid

Definitely this now. And I'd agree with what was said above, that this would describe tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of voters in Miami-Dade.

It's funny how the latter part ended up being more accurate with hindsight.

This is certainly also true. The massive Democratic swing among seniors that polls displayed did not materialize, and this is part of why Biden lost Florida. He did improve in places like Sumter and Sarasota Counties, but by nowhere near enough to offset Trump's gains in Osceola and Miami-Dade.
