Biden: I am not running

Today, 1st of October 2018, Former Vice President Joe Biden announced in a statement that he will "absolutely not run for President in the 2020 election". He cited health as well as thinking only fresh faces can defeat President Donald Trump as reasons for his decission. This statement comes as a bombshell when everyone was focusing on the 2018 midterms and leaves the Democratic primaries without a frontrunner as well as the Democratic establishment without a favorite. The decission was reportedly taken at the advice of Former President Obama, who worried the gaffe-prone Biden would hammer his legacy. President Trump tweeted that: "Joe and Obama are too scared to face TRUMP. Sad!" The other 2020 potential candidates were thrilled by the news.

Warren: I am not running

Following a humiliation in the Massachusetts Senate Race, where her Republican challenger Geoff Diehl shockingly managed to win 41% of the vote following a huge Native American DNA scandal Warren faced and the RNC most likely at the urging of President Trump deciding to pour a lot of money into the race, Senator Warren was devastated. The things looked bleak for her, as polls were putting her at 4% in the Democratic primaries and as the least likely major candidate to unseat President Trump. Trump for his part was thrilled at Warren's misfortune, tweeting today that: "POCAHONTAS just got humiliated - couldn't get 60% in Massachusetts! Can't wait for her to run (and lose) in 2020 - surely those Native American votes will be there for her". Considering all of that, as well as both Sanders's and the DNC's urging for her not to run, Warren decided not to run for the Democratic nomination, decision she published in a tweet by saying she wants to work for the people of Massachusetts in the next 6 years. The additional funding the RNC sent in Massachusetts might have been the decisive factor in Senator Nelson's reelection, as well as Mayor Gillum's election as Governor of Florida.

Besides Florida, how else were the 2018 midterms different from real life?

Governorship of Georgia goes to a runoff, even through Kemp still wins it, and Republicans lose 5-7 House seats they won RL.

Bernie Sanders emerges as frontrunner in the Democratic primaries

After both Biden and Warren denied any aspirations to the Presidency in 2020, one candidate has quickly emerged as a frontrunner for the Democratic nomination: Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, the 2016 runner-up. He has managed to create enthusiasm in a large part of the Democratic voters. He leads with a strong plurality, with 31% in the polls, followed by Kamala Harris with 17% and Pete Buttigieg with 16%, both of which are trying to add portions of the former Biden electorate to their own coalitions. They are followed by the 2018 Dem Nominee for the Governorship of Georgia, Stacey Abrams, which became a national sensation by only losing by 345 votes the 2nd round in the 2018 midterms, votes she claims she would have won shall it not have been for Kemp's machinations, and the Governor of Florida Andrew Gillum with 5%.

Sanders and Trump go increasingly to the extremes

As the primaries come closer and closer, both Senator Sanders and President Trump, the undoubted frontrunners for their party's nominations, present themselves with increasingly extremist rhetoric. Trump has just called for the removal of all immigrants, not just illegal ones, from the country, and seemed to claim the "White genocide" conspiracy theory might be real. He sat down with Alex Jones in an exclusive interview just a few days ago, move which deeply upset all mainstream media and voters. Sanders on his side said he would favor a violent redistribution of wealth shall more peaceful means not do the job, as well as put Trump and his Administration to jail for the child separation policy. The now extremist nominees might have something to do with the fact that both far-left organisations (BAMN, CPUSA, Antifa) and far-right organisations (NPI, National Socialists, Blackshirts and New Confederates) have doubled/tripled their memberships during the past few months.
