Wonder if strength of Smers 1st place finish will give momentum for FICO to be Pm.

Pellegrini holds all the aces. One thing PS can offer him is the Prime Ministership. I don't believe Pelle wants to play second fiddle to Fico again.

Expat vote result is pretty funny
PS 62
Sas 11
Smer 6
O'LANO 4
SNS 4
KDH 3
Republika 3
Demokrati 2
Hlas 2

The expat vote was enough for PS to nab a 32nd seat. It was taken from KDH, which is now left with 12.

It isn't that big of a deal, but I'll take whatever positive news I can get.

Are exit polls in Slovakia usually as worthless as this one was?

Seat allocation

Smer 42
PS 32
Hlas 27
OL'ANO 16
KDH 12
SAS 11
SNS 10

So if PS and Hlas did get together, they'd need two of OL'ANO (if they want that risk), KDH and SAS for a majority.  Smer and Hlas only need one other party to get to at least 79.

On to the next election in Pakistan in early 2024 where an ex-PM is running to regain his position on a populist anti-USA pro-Russia line.

Not really.
Pro Russia parties: Smer (42) + SNS (10) = 52
Pro Ukraine parties: PS (32) + OLANO (16) + KDH (12) + SAS (11) = 71
Huh?? : Hlas (27)

Yes, which is weird since the last pre-election polls got it more or less right (every party within 2-3 points, at least).

I thought that in 2020 Pellegrini's Smer was also underestimated by exit polls although their final result did match pre-election polls

I think the thread has covered everything else, so I'll just add I'm a bit stunned by the KDH result. I sort of got used to them polling well and then being swamped by turnout on the day.

So it's basically going to be the dreadful Smer-Hlas-SNS or, as a longshot if Pellegrini doesn't want to work with Fico, the unwieldy PS-Hlas-SaS-KDH?

I'm thinking the reason is that the field was crowded, but not on the 'establishment-friendly' conservative center-right, where the discredited Olano was essentially the only competitor to KDH (not counting SaS as they appeal to a very different group and are more classical liberal). That must have helped them. As does having been outside parliament for a while.

It seems to me that Smer is in a stronger position than PS.  Smer just needs Hlas while PS needs both Hlas and KDH.

Pretty much this. They also energized their base in Orava (31% in Námestovo district) and did well in the Prešov region (where they've also been strong in the past and Majerský is a popular governor) and especially the Levoča district (where they won 21% and where Majerský happens to be from). I've also heard a theory about them taking some Sme rodina voters.

So it's basically going to be the dreadful Smer-Hlas-SNS or, as a longshot if Pellegrini doesn't want to work with Fico, the unwieldy PS-Hlas-SaS-KDH?

Yeah, exactly.

PS+Hlas+Olano = 77 (although probably impossible given Olano's past... challenges)

It would be peak Slovakia 🇸🇰

New cursed coalition idea. What if Fico hates Pellegrini but still desperately craves power:
Smer+Olano+KDH+SNS = 80

Any new information/theories as to why SNS is in and Republika is out? And OLANO also won in...Kosice's surroundings lol.

Well, that was unfortunate. Let's hope Pellegrini hates Fico enough.

In Romanian there's a derogatory nickname for politicians: "patrihot", a combination between "patriot" and "hot"=thief. I feel this is very appropriate here.

Ideally a new set of elections or just a caretaker government for the next few years would be ideal. I personally dislike Fico.
