Meanwhile, Hickenlooper is "considering" a run.

Honestly don't know why Gardner wouldn't just retire at this point. Why wage a losing battle and waste months of your time, health and energy on it

Memerson, but yeah, barring a Republican tsunami, Gardner is toast.

Wow, two Senators may get Blanched in a single election cycle. I doubt we'd see that again anytime soon lol.

Even in Colorado, the "socially moderate, fiscally conservative" Republican is not a winning strategy. You can't hold Trump's gains in southern Colorado with that profile, and the suburban types you'd want to pull in are too far gone.

Gardner isn't "socially moderate". Well, he is if you consider Trump "economically moderate".

I was going to merge the threads, but these are two different +13 polls for Hickenlooper.

I pretty much agree with this. 2018 showed that the Democrats are not completely dead in Southern Colorado. I suspect Hickenlooper would win those counties against Gardner, and would definitely do as well as Polis, and maybe even better, in Denver and its suburbs. Gardner is also not going to do as well in El Paso, Douglas, Mesa, and Weld as he did in 2014, even though he will still win them by double-digit margins.

Trump is economically left-leaning.

Actually it would just make sense if Gardner moves to AL and Jones to CO.

Still, Larimer is the county to carry.

Gardner only barely won Larimer County last time, and if he loses to Hickenlooper by this margin, he will lose it by double digits as well, just like Stapleton did to Polis last year.

Gardner has tried to project a "socially moderate" image, which is probably more important than his actual positions for electoral outcomes.

Ed Gillespie was only 18k votes away from competing with Gardner and Jones in the "Which Senator can lose by the largest margin in 2020?" game.

Gardner would love to outperform the state's partisanship as much as Heitkamp did.
