LBJ -at the time.  And in hindsight, I still would have voted for him, given my options.

I'd vote Goldwater.  Probably because I'd know he'd get crushed, and there's no risk.  Johnson was not a good man, and it's easy to vote Goldwater because he's a decent guy and he'll lose anyway.  His son's a perverted weirdo, but Barry was a good guy.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!  You are such a college kid!!!!

Votign for a genocidal monster?  Just awful.

So Johnson wasn't a genocidal monster?

Johnson's policies did result in many deaths, but they were not genocidal.  Genocide is the intentional obiteration of a race of people because of their ethnicity, Johnson didn't do that.

What race did Ho Chi Minh do that to?  The Hmong?

I had the Montagnards in mind.

Without hindsight?  LBJ.

Unfortunately, LBJ did 100000x times more positive in his first 11 months in office than he did in the next 50.

If the poll was with hindsight, I'd probably cast a protest vote for Eric Haas or some third party candidate.

Goldwater, obviously. The minute that I heard him give the line about extremism in defense liberty being a good thing, I would have happily supported him

Interestingly, Hilary Rodham supported Goldwater in this election. Where did she go wrong? Cry

Well, it's easy without hindsight, LBJ.

Wow, that's weird, because Laura Bush supported McGovern.

What's your problem with Goldwater's son?  I know nothing about him.

The ironic thing is that, although Goldwater was seen as a right-wing extremist by many in 1964, he looked somewhat liberal compared to many Republicans in the late 1980s and early 90s.

He supported it in principle but thought it would never work. To me, that's just as bad.

Goldwater said something along the lines of that you don't need an AK-47 to hunt so there's no reason for anyone to own one.
