YES, this is finally passed! Grin

6 Aye
2 Nay
1 Abstain
You need seven votes to pass a constitutional amendment. Smiley

Wouldn't we only need 6 because MAS abstained?

According to the recent Supreme Court ruling, the amendment would need 2/3 of the full Senate (i.e., 2/3 of 10).

Ah yes I remember that, we need to get that fixed soon.

For the moment, I am not voting. This is because I am undecided and since abstains are effectively nays for this amendment.

Why?  Actually, I like it this way.  We need to have 2/3 of the Senate be absolutely sure that they want to amend the constitution.

I would advise MAS and Daniel to vote nay.

In the mideast initiatives elections, we've been waiting over a week to get certification due to one secret ballot that needs to be confirmed. If there's one thing that that the fantasy boards do not need, it is more stuff that bogs the process down. Secret ballots are on eof those things.

The problems with the Mideast system have more to do with flaws in it's writing rather than the concept of a secret ballot.

It's usually a better idea to let the people decide anyway (well... technically it's not really the people due to the system used... er... the regions would be more accurate...)

I don't see how such a slowdown is inherent in a secret ballot system, rather than simply being a product of that specific system.  How could the proposed secret ballot system in my Electoral Reform Bill create such a large slowdown?  The secret ballots will just get counted the same way as every other ballot, then posted en masse once the counting is done.  Seems simple enough to me.

Come on guys; remember what happened last election with all the tactical votes?  It happens almost every election, and we need to put an end to it.

Don't complain to us, go to DanielX, if he votes Aye it passes and if he votes Nay it fails.

Can I change MAS's vote or is that set in stone? I'm rather sure that I cannot change it as it was made by a prior Senator but I just want to be sure.

Presumably, his vote is erased by the fact that he has left the Senate.

Does that mean that I can now vote on this amendment since MAS left?

I don't think we have any rules for this. IIRC Mas abstained (could be wrong).

My assumption would be that if a current Senator resigned/left/impeached/expelled and he had placed votes on bills/amendments that were still open for voting, then those votes would be invalid.

In the same way, there is nothing in the OSPR that mentions anything about the bills MAS has introduced.  Are they removed, unless another Senator takes over sponsorship and how long does a Senator have to do this?

There is nothing in the OSPR that mentions either situations.  I'll think about adding some minor clauses that clarify this in the next revision/addition.

Yeah I defintely think this should be cleared up to avoid any legal messes.

If my vote does count I will vote NAY on the amendment.

If people give me alot of flak about this then I'll just let MAS's abstain stand.

Actually, your vote really doesn't matter now.

It's either 7-3-0 or 7-2-1, which in either case passes the amendment.

But this doesn't mean the situation can't occur in the future.
