Did Henry Wallace win a single county in 1948
«

As we all know, Henry Wallace when he ran as a progressive in 1948 got no electoral votes, but he did run nearly the same amount of votes as Strom Thurmond, who won 4 states, and performed rather well in the other 7 Confederate states. But did he finish first in at least county, and if not, where was he closest? And before the election, was there any polls or data that indicated that he would have had a chance to win at least one state?

I'm sure someone could get the data. But I would have to say no. Close to half his national vote came from the NYC area. Of the five counties, Wallace received 18% of the vote in the Bronx, 16% in Kings County (Brooklyn), and 15% of the vote in New York County (Manhattan). That reduced Truman's NYC vote to about 52%. And that was enough to tip the state to Dewey.

He didn't, nor did he come anywhere close to winning one.

There's no comparison between the two. Thurmond ran only in the South (with Truman not even being on the ballot in Alabama nor listed as the official Democratic nominee in Mississippi), thus being able to get electoral votes, where a significant part of the electorate was disenfranchised. Votes for Wallace were spread across the country.

Hillsborough FL seems just totally out of left field on that list.

Does a socialist doing well there in 1912 really help explain why Wallace did well there in 1948?

I've actually made a map a while ago of second places by county in 1912 (couldn't find the data for TX and GA, and some random white counties)
Red: Wilson
Green: TR
Blue: Taft
Maroon: Debs
Yellow: a Prohibition dude I won't bother looking up now
