My guess is that he retires in early 2021, allowing his successor some incumbency before the 2022 election

Who would Gov. KempAbrams choose?

I wonder if Kemp chooses someone, Abrams may sue him and ask for a recount?

Or you can retire earlier so you can still appoint Deal while people remember who he was.

Holcomb is probably too white and male for Georgia Democrats.

White? x
Male? x
Heterosexual? x

I see your posts are about as useful as ever.

In any case, Isakson should have retired for the sake of his own health a long time ago. I don't say that to be crass; Parkinson's is beastly and it was bound to eventually start seriously effecting his ability to go on legislating. I hope he's alright, and I hope he finally calls it quits and resigns so he can live the rest of his old age in peace.

Would Abrams reconsider if there is a special in 2020?

We nominate a black woman for Governor once and now we don't want white male hetero candidates? K. Roll Eyes

Would Abrams reconsider if there is a special in 2020?
She has explicitly stated that she wants to be an executive and feels she would best serve Georgians as the Governor rather than 1 out of 100 Senators voting for stuff that may meet resistance from the GA-GOP.

There doesn't seem to be room for a white male hetero. A gay white male, probably, but not a white male hetero right now. We'll see.

She is also busy pretending to be governor of Georgia

Glad to hear he’s okay.

I do agree that he’ll retire in 2022. I guess Nathan Deal or Saxby Chambliss would be a placeholder. I see someone like Rob Woodall, Austin Scott, Doug Collins, or Chris Carr as his successor.

Says his Parkinson has advanced. Two senate seats up for election in the Peach state now.

EDIT:

So we get two Georgia elections in 2020?

Kemp makes an appointment. Special election in 2020 for the remaining 2 years, like AZ.

Good news for Democrats. Lucy McBath would be interesting candidate for special election

She's not going to abandon the House seat she was elected to less than a year ago.

Who would be a good candidate for this seat?  Holcomb?  Reed?  Park?

Any of the usual GA peeps (RFKFan68, Adam Griffin, North Fulton Democrat, baconking, etc.) want to comment?

Ideal scenario for Democrats is Terry switching to this seat so that the two can each tap into their own strengths to help the other win. Tomlinson focuses on turning out women and minorities downstate while Terry excites liberals in the Atlanta metro and suburbs.

Honestly, I was very surprised Isakson didn’t retire in 2016.  I remember his health being an issue when I first went to D.C. in 2011-12.  Kemp will appoint Austin Scott or Jack Kingston, I bet.

Karen Handel is probably blowing up the Governor's phone trying to get this appointment. Not that she'll get it, but I'm sure she'll ask.
