The actual point of this story is he is in the United States legally and has been in detention for months.  They are holding out the clock on him so his work and residency permit will expire and they can deport him to Spain.

No! My point is that he will not be spiritually "harmed" by this because there is nothing wrong with violating halal rules if you are under duress or have no other options.

The border patrol agents are so ignorant of other cultures that they thought forcing him to eat pork was going to "hurt" him as a Muslim when in fact since they were forcing him to do it, it doesn't matter.

No! That is exactly the opposite of what Situationist and I have said. Yes, Trump is a sick man, in many senses of the word. But the mentality that leads to widespead war crimes is not coming from a single rotten apple at the top of the barrel - it's a widespread ideology that has infected our nation. As a nation, we need to publicly reject "Republicanism" (put in scare quotes, because it hasn't had anything to do with any classic Republican values for decades) for the awful and destructive ideology it continually demonstrates itself to be.

Our institutions have never much cared for following the 1^st Amendment equally, from Muslims not being fed at the right times on Ramadan to attacks on polytheists in the military, none of this should be surprising. A true hot take from a secular perspective is that pork was still eatable for a non medicinal reason and giving different foods to this person because of some "imaginary" being they believe in lies contrary to a secular government. For example see medical vs religious exemptions for vaccinations.
