Wish I knew earlier about this...

I guess Sicily is still available, so I'd take it if I fit the definition of "experienced player".

But of course! How could an accomplished veteran of Balance of Power not be exactly that?

We're making excelent progress here! We have the necessary players to make the Near East, Holy Roman Empire and Anglo-French conflicts engaging and not overtly dependant on NPC's, which is great.

I would strongly encourage new players to pick Castile, Aragon or the Almohads, there's interesting characters there and we could use players in the Iberian Peninsula.

Will this game start before or after the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa? It’s a pretty big consideration for consideration of Spain.

I know this will sound crazy, but I have to drop out at this ridiculously early stage. I know how absurd it is to drop out on the day I joined, before the game even began, but unforeseen circumstances came up and I just won't be able to play, at least for now. I might be able to join the game later on, though.

So sorry to hear that, Wallace! I strongly hope nothing is wrong with RL, best of luck!

No, actually quite the opposite (other than the unrelated fact that I was recently diagnosed with fructose malabsorption). The circumstances referred to is a family vacation planned for next week that I was just last night informed of.

Before the battle, player action is supposed to influence whether it goes like in OTL or in a different direction.

I'll take the Jin Dynasty as Prince Wanyan.

I would be interested in having a Khwarezmian Empire player, if anyone else is thinking about joining.

Where can I find sources about the Jin Dynesty and where are the Mongols?

I'd strongly recommend to start with the English Wikipedia as it has a decent amount of info and/or links to other places, my research books on the Jin/Mongols are some old ones I have (written in Spanish) so I don't think they would be useful. What do you mean by where are the Mongols?

Also, I have finished the map! It will require further work as maps of the era are unreliable and sometimes contradictory (and I drew most of the borders myself, so they're not 100% accurate):

Not to pester you or anything, but, in Northern Africa, the Almohads has little to no actual political authority west of Algiers, which was largely under the domain of their “Governors,” the Hafsids and the rebellious Banu Ghaniya. It is probably easier to not try to map that out with a map and just reflect it IG, but something you should know.

Thank you all! To answer some questions:

Btw Lumine,I know England still has possessions in France. But I don't understand the colors to IRL Southeast.

Aye, Aquitaine is still English. The situation in Occitania was a bit tough to outline, but it essentially reflects that at this point Toulouse and the surrounding areas are under control - at least nominal - of the Count of Toulouse and his vassals, him being also a vassal of the Kingdom of Aragon (who at this point have also direct control over the Duchy of Provence). The white area is meant to represent the Albigensian Crusade (we will use that color whenever crusaders capture an area).

I considered outlining the borders of Toulouse as under French nominal sovereignty, but it wasn't until the late 1220's that France got Aragon to abandon all claims to Occitania.

Interesting! I know it was later along the line (1220-1230) that they truly lost control over much of their African holdings, but I wasn't aware control was that loose. Do you think you could provide a source so I can reflect this in the map in some manner?

Other notes:

-Cumans, Alans, Volga Bulgars, Mongols and others are portrayed without clear borders, as they're nomadic tribes.
-Holy Roman Empire portrayed with different colors to represent neutral princes or territories, pro-Otto princes and pro-Frederick princes (some are regions that include several princes, I wasn't going to draw every single territory in the Empire).
-Holy Roman Empire borders are drawn for reference, they include Crusader territory captured in Livonia.
-Russian Princes given very loose borders given the issues with maps.
-Brittany and Ireland given French and English "border claims" to account of the pretensions of both nations to their smaller neighbors (Ireland having land under direct English control, Brittany having a nominally pro-French regent).

Surprisingly enough, I already got my initial plans for Turn 1 written out. I just need to wait for the crises of the first turn, make my responses to them, and post them once finished (Unless it's true diplomacy)

Wikipedia actually mentions the Hafsids being Governors at this time, as well as their very impressive bloodline. They didn’t declare independence for a while, however. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hafsid_dynasty

Upon further research, it appears that the Banu Ghaniya were actually defeated by 1212, so you will probably want to ignore that part of it.
