The New York political establishment has created an election environment that encourages very low turnout. And low turnout increases the chance of a progressive upset, since enthusiasm becomes such a huge factor. Joseph Crowley would have won a high turnout primary, and so would Melinda Katz. So if the NY establishment wants to reassert their political power, why not restructure their election laws?

Didn't they move the federal and state election primaries to the same date?   I know it was to save money, but having more elections on the same day should boost turnout, not lower it.

Wow, I didn't know about that. Sounds like a step in the right direction.

They should (like other states) eliminate the primary for lieutenant governor. The gubernatorial candidate should chose whoever he or she wants.

The New York Democratic establishment is one of the best.

Maybe NY should have universal polling hours?  The fact that the major metros in the state have all-day voting yet the less-populated areas only get a few hours sounds like something out of a third-world country.
