There's less of them than I thought there would be, unsurprisingly most of them are in Appalachia and the Upper South

You are definitely missing some. Iron and Pierce Counties in Wisconsin belong on this list for sure.

A populist, rural (especially Appalachian) Democrat who decided to hold their nose and vote for Obama the first time--in spite of race and everything--but for whom for a second time was too much.

Also, maybe Obama's first term was seen as very anti-coal.
