You guys do realize that pretty much every Democrat on this site has referred to Trump as the "Cheeto-in-Chief," the "Tangerine Tornado," or some variant of this theme, right? Remember when everyone called Ted Cruz "Grandpa Munster?" Making fun of a politician's appearance is obviously not the best refutation of their platform, but don't dish it out if you can't take it, for God's sake. You just come across looking like hypocrites.

Calling Trump things like, "Rapist-in-Chief" or "President Dumbscheiss" falls under it's own category. It's just us trying to be... bipartisan, and address the President in the manner he has shown he feels is appropriate for elected representatives of the public. If you think that isn't appropriate, take it up with the Republican party.

I can't wait for ARE President to utterly tool the Democrats via live tweet. I'm holding two watch parties for my pals here in NYC, most of whom hate The Don, so it'll be amusing to watch them whine.

I don't think it's inappropriate. I heartily encourage ad hominem attacks against any and all politicians. They're public figures; they knew what they were getting into when they signed up. And furthermore, they deserve it.

538 released the numbers from their pre-debate poll today, conducted by Morning Consult: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/democratic-debate-poll/

Here's the poll's rank of the favorability of all 20 debaters when divided into each debate.

Debate 1:

1. E. Warren: +49.7%
2. B. O'Rourke: +37%
3. C. Booker: +35.1%
4. A. Klobuchar: +20%
5. J. Castro: +19.6%
6. J. Inslee: +9%
7. T. Ryan: +8.2%
8. J. Delaney: +7.4%
9. T. Gabbard: +7.1%
10. B. de Blasio: -1.4%

Debate 2:

1. J. Biden: +60.5%
2. B. Sanders: +57.2%
3. K. Harris: +45.7%
4. P. Buttigieg: +36.4%
5. K. Gillibrand: +21.9%
6. A. Yang: +14.8%
7. E. Swalwell: +9.9%
8. M. Bennet: +8.8%
9. J. Hickenlooper: +7.4%
10. M. Williamson: +5%

Shortly after the two debates are history, Morning Consult will conduct a new poll for 538 to see how  Democrats views of and support for each candidate changes. So stay tuned for that.

PS: After Andrew Yang's appearance on Late Show with Steven Colbert last night (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jx5j1X9njHs), he has received almost 100,000 new Twitter followers. I believe he had just slightly more than 300,000 followers yesterday. 10 hours after the show ended or so, the number has already skyrocketed to 382,000, and it's still rising fast from what I can see.

I feel like Gabbard is gonna get a bump from this debate. I mean who is going to waste time attacking her? And I could see her pulling in some low info viewers who like her anti-war message.

It's not the DNC's fault Bullock didn't qualify. He took until the last minute to announce, and his appeal is already taken by Biden, O'Rourke, etc.

I'm fine with that argument for a later debate, but all candidates with a real campaign (IE, not the people who are just unknown names on the ballot for the lulz) should get a chance to make their appeal to the people on the national debate stage.

A three-night debate with 8 slots each could have sufficed, and the next debate could have had a stricter standard.

The whole reason we have so many randos running is because they thought they could be one of the 20 who made the debate stage. If they had set the initial cap at 24 candidates we'd have 29 running

If we had 29 candidates, the voters would deserve the chance to see all 29 of them up on the stage making their case.

What have the voters done that is so horrible?

Yang just announced that he's already reached 128,000 donors. Now I guess he has almost two more months to get the final 2000. Smiley
