The Republicans nominate former Governor Jeb Bush of Florida for President, who chooses Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana to unite conservatives and signal change.

The Democrats nominate former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina for President, who picks Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico to energize Hispanics and expand into the West.

Discuss with maps.

As lolzy as it is to nominate a Bush, Bush wins decisively 49-42, with a strong third party challenge coming from Jesse Ventura/Ron Paul.

Former Governor Jeb Bush (R-FL)/Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA) - 48.5%, 296 EV's
Former Senator John Edwards (D-NC)/Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM) - 42.1%, 242 EV's
Former Governor Jesse Ventura (L-MN)/Congressman Ron Paul (L-TX) - 8.2%, 0 EV's
Others - 1.2%, 0 EV's

I think that Edwards in 08 would still have a reasonable shot at winning Arkansas and West Virginia, that's before they drifted hard right.

Bush wins the popular vote, loses the electoral vote.

Edwards doesn't survive his scandal and eventually is impeached/convicted, but Richardson makes it through the term before losing reelection in 2012 in a landslide.
