Likud need to get Fleur Hassan-Nahoum in the Knesset. I’ve been following her on twitter for a few weeks and she seems like a great person. A woman of peace as well.

This is pretty big, though it should be noted that Haim Katz is considered kind of a Sa'ar ally.

Also: KL say if Likud switches leaders they'd be ready to be 2nd in rotation.

The Likud would still likely have to drop the Haredim, which I doubt would bother Saar. The Haredim are Bibi's thing, not the Likud's.

In any case, I can't see Saar getting more than 40% in a 2-man leadership race.

Honestly Likud isn’t a secular party anymore. Just look at Tzipi Hotovely and Miki Zohar.

Nir Barkat that absolute nobody offers a primaries for the party deputy leader who will succeed if the PM is incapacitated.

Weird proposal of spineless mercenary. Katz already supported Bibi so it leaves only Ardan and Edlstein is high ranking officials who could add weight to the challenge (I know Hanegbi and Dichter want to run but that's not going to happen for them

It is a worthless proposal, which is exactly the point of it. It is supposed to mollify Bibi's opponents, but it obviously won't even do that.

If Saar and co. want to salvage the "sane right" and Israeli democeacy then they will need to be courageous enough to split from the Likud, because that party (by Bibi's design) lives and dies with him.

It's supposed to make Barkat look both loyal but responsible yet in the same time to signal to Bibi that his time to step down will come at some point in the near future.

Likud leadership primaries in 6 weeks

Seriously? What's even the point of holding a primary so far back? Won't the Knesset already be dissolved by then?

It's in the next six weeks, which makes a bit more sense.

Yeah, that's the point. Netanyahu doesn't want avoiding a new election to be a trump card for Saar. If the leadership vote is held after the Knesset expires then it'll just be about who Likud members want leading the party into the next election. And I can't imagine that being anyone but Bibi.

So punting on the leadership contest is good for a Netanyahu who wants to stay on as pm for as many more months as possible, but it's very bad for a Likud that will have to campaign with Netanyahu hung around their necks in the spring.

So... who are the 57?

B&W, Labor-Gesher and DU are the obvious 44. I wonder who the additional ones are.

Sounds like the JL, Balad didn’t recommend last time because Gantz asked them.

Can Sa'ar, or anyone else, actually beat Bibi or is this some kind of weird posturing? It's hard to see what he might want apart from the actual Likud leadership (since his bloc is strong enough that he could simply hand leadership of the country to Gantz if he felt like it), but this naively feels like a bad way to go about getting it.

A document asking Rivlin to grant Gantz the mandate again. Basically a recommendation.

So Bibi has to give away four portfolios he's been hoarding? Can he bribe some of his wavering people to stay on board with these?

Smotrich is demanding the Diaspora protfolio from Netanyahu too.

Also, the Attorney General just said that Netanyahu doesn't have to resign and that there isn't a definite cause to say that he has to temporarily step down from his duties either.

They are literally going to burn the country (and region) down before relinquishing power.

If this crisis ends eventually, you all should write new rules about interim governments. It is insane that the guy who has been trying unsuccessfully since April across two elections to form a government is still Prime Minister.

Definitely agreed. The President should be allowed to appoint someone neutral (such as Benny Begin, for example) who would proceed to appint an interim government by giving protfolios to outside figures and maybe some Likud and B&W MKs. There's also no reason that disgraceful hack Yuli Edlestein is still perched on his high chair as Speaker.

That’s a terrible idea, Israel’s political culture cannot embrace a professional government minus an ex general in an effective military regime. Also Begin is far from neutral.
It’s either a temporary presidential government or an automatic sworn minority government unless someone else swears a majority government
