Likely D.

I don't think Hochul will be well-received by the Charles Barrons and Al Sharptons of the world. She will need to pick a Black or Latino running mate and not a woman, a man.

She has several months to introduce herself to voters and its probable that will be who she picks.

God help the state of New York. At least DJT Jr would certainly lose. But we don't need this.

Kathy HOCHUL is gonna be Gov why waste money on NY, and there are other races like OH, NC and FL Gov that will ensure we break Filibuster with 53 votes as wave insurance to GA Sen

Stave off an R takeover of House wave insurance, we don't need a primary, Hochul will beat any Rs

Thankfully Mr. Cuomo is on his way out, although he theoretically could run regardless. It saves us from an embarrassing race with a scandal plagued incumbent who would have won a GE, but dragged down downballot candidates.

As for how this goes, the GE is Safe D regardless of the nominee. If she decides to run, which I expect she will, Hochul is the favorite. The real test for her will the primary; we need to see whether someone runs against her and if so, who. As of now, James is possibly the biggest "threat" for her, but less likely to run than a progressive. We have to see how she governs in the coming months. Not having been close to Cuomo is for sure an advantage now.

Would be great to see Teachout run again, though she is another figure who probably can't afford another loss.

Im wondering if Cuomo might have announced his resignation to take the pressure off and stop impeachment only to rescind it later.

If he did that I would expect the legislature would impeach him anyway as it would only anger them further.

Andrew Giuliani has been laughed out of every room over these past few months and couldn't muster support from so much as a county chair. He is a rare breed - too stupid to make it in politics even with a recognizable name, which is not to suggest that anyone takes his father particularly seriously anymore.

Doesn't help his last name is practically cursed now too, especially considering Rudy's approvals are probably almost Dick Cheney 2008 levels now.

Some people say that Alessandra Biaggi is trying to be Lt. Governor, but she is controversial.

Is it true?

She has branded herself as an AOC-style progressive (though I don't think she identifies as a socialist), but there is skepticism of her among the grassroots left due to coming from a well-established political family and having been a staffer for the likes of Crowley, the Brooklyn DA, Hillary Clinton's Presidential campaign, and a fairly long stint in Cuomo's office on his counsel team.

I think she also hinted it will be someone from Downstate by saying she likes diversity in the administration. I hope she names a sane progressive who can help in 2022.

Any shot it's Jumaane Williams? He meets the already stated criteria of "someone people are familiar with" and also provides a lot of balance/diversity (geographic, ideological, gender, racial). This move would also probably help her fend off a primary challenge from the left in '22 by demonstrating to progressives that they have a seat at the table in her administration.

I know he tried to primary her in 2018 which is why this feels unlikely, but maybe she's going for a team of rivals situation. Would be a super savvy move IMO and a good outcome for the state.

A complicating factor is that the NYC Dems would need to replace him as the Public Advocate nominee, but that doesn't feel like a problem.

If he did that I would expect the legislature would impeach him anyway as it would only anger them further.

Day 13 of "the transition" in Cuomo's dreams: "New evidence has come to light" &/or "My approvals have gone up 1% so my ability to govern has been magically restored." I'd be pretty shocked if he actually rescinded it, though, since the legislature is literally still talking about impeaching anyway in order to permanently bar him from state-level office for life.

Hochul said she will pick a new Lt. Governor within the next two weeks. Let the speculation begin.

She also said it'll be someone most people are familiar with.

And she opted to use the word "ticket" rather than "administration" when she said that she's "cognizant of the need for diversity & an inclusive ticket," so there's all of the fuel that we need to speculate about what her plans for 2022 are.

I think she also hinted it will be someone from Downstate by saying she likes diversity in the administration. I hope she names a sane progressive who can help in 2022.

He's quite literally the only person whom I can think of who'd meet all of the presumed pre-requisites based on her statement: a NYC politician who's a racial &/or ethnic minority & whom most people are already pretty familiar with.

I know he tried to primary her in 2018 which is why this feels unlikely, but maybe she's going for a team of rivals situation. Would be a super savvy move IMO and a good outcome for the state.

He didn't deny interest in being her L.G. when asked about it in an interview earlier today, so speculation fuel go brrrr....

A complicating factor is that the NYC Dems would need to replace him as the Public Advocate nominee, but that doesn't feel like a problem.

Yeah, it's just a majority vote of the NYC Democratic Party's executive committees that'd get to fill any vacancy that arises.

I'd be really, really surprised if Williams is chosen. I'm not sure what to make of him, whether he's a Nina Turner leftist or more like a non-toxic progressive like Fetterman or Biaggi. If latter is the case and Hochul can get along with him and assign him with some duties he likes to undertake, it could be a good move and essentially shut down a left-wing primary challenge (I would assume both de facto run as a ticket then and endorse each other). Ideally both would run unopposed then. Hochul definitely has moved to the left in recent years, so their differences (maybe) could be worked out. Both would also demonstrate that they more care about the good of the state than past rivaleries, just like Biden-Harris.

On a sidenote, Kathy Hochul's path from the county level to become first female governor of the Empire State is quite unique by taking advantage of creepy men:

- She won her first congressional race after a Republican sending nude pictures to minors resigned in disgrace. Her win was a major upset as the direct was considered Safe Republican.

- Narrowly lost in 2012 in an even redder district to Chris Collins, who later resigned in disgrace and was pardoned by Trump. That loss saved her in the long run, as Cuomo would have picked someone else in 2014. She would have lost her seat that year for certain.

- The guy who picked for the second spot himself succeeded two governors of which done resigned in disgrace after a sex scandal and another one who was forced out after he tried to interfere in a domestic abuser investigation (didn't know that about Paterson). Additionally, the guy Cuomo defeated in 2010 (Carl Paladino) also had a sex scandal at the time.

- In 2018, high-profile attorney general Eric Schneiderman resigned in disgrace after it came out he abused women privately. Subsequently, he was replaced by Tish James, who conducted the investigation into Cuomo. Maybe Schneiderman would have protected Cuomo and later succeeded him?

- Now she becomes governor after Cuomo announced his resignation following allegations of severe sexual harassment.

- Furthermore, Cuomo actually tried to drop her off the ticket in 2018 by floating a congressional run for her old seat in Western New York. She rejected these talks and insisted to stay in Albany.

Hopefully next time it takes less for a woman to get the state's top-job. Anyway, I hope she also becomes the first woman to be elected to the position.

Unfortunately, Andrew Yang also meets all the criteria. Balances geography, gender, ethnicity, and who hasn't heard of the guy. He also seems to have a knack at failing towards success. But I hope he isn't what she has in mind.
