Zeldin is either an idiot and prefers losing his future seniority for a doomed run, or knows that he will be gerrymandered out of existence anyway.

He probably knows he's doomed. Didn't Wasserman say the most likely outcome for redistricting in LI is that GOP voters get shored up in Garbarino's district?

Zeldin's a joke, so here's hoping that this brings an end to this man's career at the polls.

In another time Zeldin would have been a good candidate. Coming from a area rich in votes and having experience winning a swing area.
Right now everything is ruled by partisanship. Zeldin can easily be tied to the national party and therefore is a bad candidate.
Cuomo can win just by running non-stop ads about his voting record and support of trump. Same way Newsom is making the recall all about Trump and national republican.

Lee Kamikaze Zeldin will challenge Cuomo  :

I said this before in a thread about Terri Sewell, but it’s still true here. The only reason a rep would engage in such a high profile loss is they’re either auditioning for a high post (Jaime Harrison) or just looking to retire with a bang (James E Smith)

It will be funny if FL flipped blue and NY flipped red which can happen, but Cuomo needs to be out and let D's have this race, he will cause this race and out Redistricting race to be contested

Likely D if it’s Zeldin v Cuomo, Safe D if it’s Zeldin against literally any other D. And Likely vs. Cuomo may be being generous / is assuming there’s a chance Cuomo gets arrested late in the campaign.

Still safe with Cuomo, but I still believe Cuomo won't be the nominee because he's either forced out of the race or no longer in office. The investigations are still running and will very likely be a bombshell once published.

- Serial Sexual Predator

- Insurrectionist Traitor

- Insurrection-complacent NeoCon

Another great option!

Katko is considering a run.

https://13wham.com/news/local/report-republican-rep-katko-being-recruited-to-run-for-governor-of-ny

Would clearly be the smartest choice, but I have strong doubts that he is capable of winning a Republican primary after voting to impeach. It will probably end up being Andrew Giuliani or some other hard R MAGA loon who has no chance of being competitive even with Cuomo's damaged position.

Katko running for Governor sounds like a great way to give Dems a shot at winning the Syracuse house seat.

While Cuomo would still be favored in any general election, hopefully Democrats in the legislature, and especially the speaker, finally impeach him once the reports are published. It's not just that he no longer deserves holding office, Democrats would be guaranteed a victory with Kathy Hochul (or Tish James) leading their ticket.

But if it were Cuomo vs. Katko, I'd go for the latter. The legislature would keep him in check.

Rep. Zeldin, Rep. Stefanik, Marc Molinaro, Rob Astorino, and Andrew Giuliani have been invited to a Republican Party conference this week regarding the election. Prominent NYGOP/NY Conservative Party figures like Zeldin; but want him pushed further to the right.

Even Katko probably can't win a Syracuse and Ithaca district.

They will make it competitive, but they will lose to whoever the Democrat is. Cuomo would win reelection unless a really damaging thing emerged......

Chris Jacobs is the only one who can make it really competitive

As long as Cuomo isn't running every single Republican with any ambitions for Governor is wasting their time and effort by running. But hey, I can't really complain if Katko or Zeldin want to abandon their seats. I'd be fine with either. Zeldin and his stupid face is such a piece of s***, I would be grateful if he was no longer in the House. And I would love for a Democrat to actually have a chance in Katko's district if he runs for Governor instead.

The NYGOP did these similar antics with the 27th Congressional Seat. They hold these closed-doors pitch contests to see who they think would be the best fit, and the decided person without flaw typically wins the party's primary. For the 27th they went with center-right Chris Jacobs over Trumpist Stefan Mychajliw, but considering it's a state-wide race and Mychajliw himself and Carl Paladino of all people are calling the shots; the furthest right of the furthest right candidate here will take the nomination; and that's probably gonna be Zeldin - only because I can't see fellow insurrectionist Stefanik promising serious interest in it and Giuliani has obvious legal troubles waiting for him with the AGs of NYS/NYC relating to the Trump years.

Katko voted to extend the Civil Rights Act to sexual orientation and gender identity, voted against Trump's GOP Healthcare Bill, and voted to impeach Trump. He will never become the nominee.

An interesting candidate to keep The SAM Party alive, however...

I'm rolling with that being the likely path we're heading toward. Cuomo vs. Zeldin vs. Katko or similar centrist Republican (SAM) vs. Sharpe (LP) vs. Hawkins (GP).

Stefanik is future House leadership. She will not be making a suicide run for Governor.

Cuomo probably would be reelected even if the AG's report is damaging........I don't know how a NYGOP can win, maybe in 2026, 2030.....
