If the NY GOP put up someone completely unelectable who can't credibly defeat Cuomo, they'll deserve their loss. I know it's a hard fight but the answer isn't a hard-right careerist, who will not be good for New York. The only answer is a successful primary challenge to Cuomo which will be hard too. NY's not in the best place.

After a gathering with GOP party leadership this weekend, Rep. Lee Zeldin emerges as a front runner for the GOP nomination. Also of note: 2014 nominee Rob Astorino says he is “99.99 percent” certain he’ll run for Governor again:

So it's Astorino vs Zeldin then? Should be an interesting map (upstate vs NYC/Long Island). I'd support Zeldin, not because he's better (he's vile), but to get him out of his house seat. Cuomo or any other Democrat would destroy either candidate. I still am skeptical Cuomo gets the nomination again, but he could.

If it's...

Cuomo vs Katko (has no chance at the nonination) I vote Katko

Cuomo vs Astorino I Write In Phil Scott

Cuomo vs Zeldin I Write in Phil Scott

I'd vote for just about any non Cuomo Democrat against the Republican

Do we have any timeline on 2 upcoming AG reports on Cuomo (sexual harrassment and nusing home deaths)? Is there even time left for impeachment? If the reports aren't published a year from now, the time window closes, unless NY Dems are stupid enough the nominate him again. The corrupt dude is definitely running if he's still in office in summer next year.

Stefanik is future House leadership. She will not be making a suicide run for Governor.

The modern Republican Party... just LOL.

This helps to explain why she's moved so far-right in the past few years. It's an effort to curry the favor of the Republican base, and to consolidate her support among her colleagues for when she eventually makes her leadership bid.

Pataki reportedly interested.

I'd vote for him (probably) over Cuomo, not that I'd ever vote for Cuomo. It's just a question of the Republican or a write-in.

I think it'll backfire on her. She didn't have much of a profile before, but since she's become so vocally awful, NY Dems have a good reason to nuke her district.

I'm pretty sure nuking her would be inefficient.

I don't even think Pataki could win in this 2022 NY climate...2002 was 20 years ago, both Pataki and the national GOP was riding off the post-9/11 boom that added more voters for the GOP......

Like I said before, if Republicans are winning statewide races in NY, they are winning 400+ EVs nationwide.

How would they do so? From what I've read, they're more likely to combine the districts of Tenney and Reed into one, which would open the door for Brindisi to mount a rematch effort.

Like I said before, if Republicans are winning statewide races in NY, they are winning 400+ EVs nationwide.

Statewide is off-year. A Republican could win NY, but under the right climate. NY has to have a major crime surge like the 1980s and 1990s for a Republican to win statewide like Pataki and Vacco did in 1994......

Cuomo will not carry Nassau, Suffolk or Richmond counties if he is the Dem nominee in 2022.....the last Republican to win Nassau statewide was Dan Donovan in 2010, the then-district attorney for Staten Island when he ran for Attorney General against Eric Schneiderman.....a Republican winning NY takes a lot of hard work and effort and appealing to crossover Democrats while staying away from Trumpism.....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_New_York_Attorney_General_election

Cuomo is unpopular in Nassau/Suffolk/Richmond.....he can win without them.....Cuomo can carry only NYC and still be reelected......

This, but Steve Bellone, Laura Curran and Kathleen Rice could make it Likely D.....the Democratic base would not be happy with Long Island suburban Democrats who may be too police-friendly or too moderate on taxes....

If Cuomo wins reelection in 2022, what if he wants to run in 2026, 2030 and even 2034? Cuomo is that power hungry to do so

I don't think this is winnable, even against Cuomo. If Cuomo isn't the Dem candidate, it's Titanium D anyways.

They could win against a blank slate like Bellone or Curran or Hochul but it would take a non-Trumpian candidate to win
