Judge Jeanine???

Most likely it'll be either an assemblywoman or some county legislator.

I get DA/criminal justice background vibes from the last sentence, but we'll see at 11.

Zeldin selects Alison Esposito, a NYPD precinct commander.

Pretty interesting pick. All I can find about her is an article about her working with a charity.

https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nypd-captain-crusades-kids-cleft-palates-poor-nations-article-1.3121314?outputType=amp

I don't see how it helps Zeldin upstate, however.

Wow. It seems like Cuomo may be gearing up to run for something this year. My guess is he runs for Attorney General.

If I were Cuomo, I'd wait until 2025, and attempt to primary Eric Adams for Mayor of New York City.

Ugh, the Wikipedia article about the AG race lists him as "declined" and cites a NY Post article. Could be a nothingburger here, or he's aiming a late entry at the gov race to challenge Hochul. Would be kind of hilarious to see him finish 3rd after her and Williams (I could see Suozzi dropping out then).

Emerson (yes, I know, but it’s interesting) have polled the AG and gubernatorial races with Cuomo as a late entry, and the results are… disappointing. Particularly his bizarre hypocritical strength in the gov race.

I still don't get the hate for Emerson on this forum, or for Trafalgar.

Emerson's crosstabs are always wonky, but this particular poll has Hochul's approval underwater and her approval % nearly the same between Independents and Republicans. Lots of stuff that would be new since those are all things we haven't seen in any other poll.

They don't show as rosy numbers for Democrats like Marist and their other favorites do. Narrative > accuracy.

Emerson and Trafalgar are accurate and relatively high-rated, and I struggle to recall a result that was not logical or that closely approximated what happened.

Could Cuomo even announce this late? Is there any actual basis that the corrupt dude will run? For sure I have a hard time seeing him to get a third of the primary vote.

Any chance this Memerson is fake/bought by Cuomo himself to test reactions?

The filing deadline is April 7th so in theory he could. I have doubts he will run as the entire party despises him at this point.

Yeah, I can't imagine he'll even get a third of support here.

Maybe this is kind of hackish and wishful thinking, but I think this race is Safe Hochul, unless she somehow blows this by a scandal in the meantime.

Every state should be fired into the sun. In fact, throw the whole planet into the sun.

Safe Hochul but Zeldin will make inroads. She should not be comfortable and run a Martha Coakley.

No, both pollsters have objectively had major blunders in the past.

Then who do you consider to be the best pollsters?

However they have had less errors than basically all the major pollsters.

Larry Sharpe earns NY Libertarian Party nomination, announces 2018 running mate Andrew Hollister as his running mate once again. Sharpe was also endorsed by Andrew Yang, and will be earning the Forward Party's line in the general election as well, if the party qualifies. Sharpe also has potential support of the Upstate Jobs Party and Unite NY as well - meaning Sharpe could hypothetically appear on as many as 4+ party lines.

https://www.einnews.com/pr_news/563730840/larry-sharpe-nominated-for-governor-of-ny-at-libertarian-party-convention

Working Families Party endorses Jumaane Williams for the general election, opening the door for a spoiler campaign effect.

https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/central-ny/ny-state-of-politics/2022/02/09/working-families-party-backs-jumaane-williams-for-governor

Per PSOL's post in the 2024 independents/third party thread, Howie Hawkins is rumored to run for Governor again.

Not much news about the SAM Party yet, however.

This is the first time I have thought of the Upstate Jobs Party in years. I didn't know they continued to exist in any real way after Babinec's 2016 run.

If Cuomo wants to run he'd better start collecting petitions soon. Once he announced his opponents would start hammering him. I have serious doubts he'd win the primary and if he somehow did he'd be the one candidate who could lose the general.

I doubt a lot a of people would sign his petitions. I know I wouldn't.

Would Suozzi drop out then? Or run for lt. governor?

Cuomo should just go away, it's already embarrassing he isn't locked up behind bars. Nonetheless, it would be glorious to see crush and burn. Give them hell, Queen Kathy!

Cuomo is appealing to Black and Latino churches because he knows they are more establishment than white liberals.

I don't know if he has appeal.
