Zeldin has leukemia, he is not healthy, Wilson can make the race more competitive.

If Wilson runs, and wins the nomination, he should pick a minority LG.

Harry Wilson is a nobody with a big wallet. The only reason the state GOP likes him is because he would spend his own money instead of theirs on a totally unwinnable race.

Tbh I'd support Wilson, as out of all of the candidates running or considering it, he has the best chance of winning

I have a feeling Suozzi becomes increasingly desperate in his crusade against "interim governor Hochul".

Why did he run against her in the first place? They're both establishment liberal Democrats.

Ego and self-promotion, obviously. He already ran for governor in 2006, so it seems he had a long desire for the job.

Suozzi has never had great political instincts.

Suozzi has never had great political instincts.

Quite possibly was a now or never situation - he wants state office and letting someone else get entrenched for several years might see that opportunity vanish permanently. Therefore, a desperate charge at a new Governor without ties to the NYC media market makes sense from his own perspective.

And that charge has certainly been desperate, as he seems to lack little political instincts for those communities beyond the one he currently serves.

de Blasio not running:

de Blasio would have finished dead last if he had run, so this makes little difference. Hopefully, he sinks into obscurity now that he is no longer Mayor of New York City.

de Blasio should work in the private sector.

Suozzi should run for Congress again or wait to be Senator in 2024 or 2028 or run for Nassau Executive in 2025 and he could beat Blakeman.

Hochul has raised $21.6 million since announcing her campaign

Quote
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) announced Tuesday that she has raised $21.6 million since launching her gubernatorial campaign in mid-August, a hefty haul establishing her as the front-runner in the race’s Democratic primary.

Hochul’s campaign said it is going forward with $21.3 million in the bank and touted its five-month haul as “record-setting.” The campaign also drew donations from every one of New York’s 62 counties.

The fundraising haul underscores Hochul’s edge in the primary, which pits her against New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Rep. Thomas Suozzi, who represents a district in Long Island. Already, her campaign prowess is believed to have helped nudge state Attorney General Letitia James (D) out of the race and kept New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) on the sidelines.

Williams and Suozzi have not yet publicly disclosed their fundraising, but an adviser for Suozzi told The New York Times that he had taken in more than $3 million since launching his campaign in November and transferred another $2 million from his congressional campaign account.

It's actually quite stunning how she has exceeded most expectations in terms of reelection prospects. Not just fundraising, but also polling and winning important endorsements, of which more will certainly come in. I remember well how Hochul was always expected to be a placeholder. Of course, things can change a few months down the road, but it doesn't actually look like a realistic possibility unless she does something very stupid in the meantime.

I actually don't even remember a New York governor winning election to a full term after taking over from lieutenant governor. Paterson was pushed out and Wilson lost the 1974 election. And Herbert Lehman was duly elected after Franklin Roosevelt's term expired on regular schedule.

You have a Republican running on the Democrat line, a lockdown lunatic, and someone who doesn't follow her own mask mandate.

Not true, at least for the instance noted a few pages back. The mandate was not for events requiring proof of vaccination.

Was there ever proof? All I saw was her at an event not wearing a mask. I couldn't find anything there that said proof of vax was required.

It's called being a centrist Democrat on Long Island. Visit the Island in the summer and you'll see why.

Mario Cuomo did succeed Hugh Carey; he was Carey's 2nd Lt. Governor.

Hochul's part of the COVID-19 Lockdown Cult; an extremist on the issue, so I can't stand her.  That being said, it is pretty impressive how she's solidified her position and cleared the field, especially given that she is a Democrat not from NYC.  She's a solid favorite for election as of now.

Sources claiming Hochul will actually renew and expand (including children 2+) the mask mandate tomorrow.

Curious to see how she'll fare by further infuriating parents.

Hochul, Newsom, and Pritzker-the Governors of the three largest Democratic States-have certainly taken a much stricter approach to the pandemic than the Governors of the two largest Republican States (Abbott and DeSantis).
