Here's to show how out of touch the Electoral College is with modern day democracies across the world:

And that would be the current "swing states".  Think they are going to go to Alaska to get some voters or Wyoming? No, they'll want a big visible rally in Dallas, San Francisco, Chicago, or NYC.

Trump went to most states even ones that were solidly R: Alabama, Mississippi, the Carolinas, etc.

I still don't see how they change except going to the major cities more now.

Is that really the case though?

Put it this way: no state does an EC equivalent for governor or for Senate. Do Senate and Governor candidates just campaign in the major cities of the state? Or do they instead visit all places with persuadable voters? I'm pretty sure it's the latter.

Maybe they won't visit a place with literally 50 people, but small towns will get visits just like governor/senate visit small areas.

Another way I think that argument fails is that retailers with a national presence usually have stores in most if not all of the states. If they could make more money by instead focusing on California, New York, and Texas, ignoring Wyoming, Montana, Vermont, Alaska, etc. they would do that.
