Very horrible person, but like George Wallace - he wasn't the worst out there.  He was just a vote whore who lacked principle, not really a leading racist.

Horrible. At least Wallace recanted his position, one that was no where as near as bad as Faubus.

Didn't Faubus come out of retirement in 1986 in an unsuccessful attempt to try to unseat Governor Clinton?

Not that I know of -there is no mention of him reentering politics after losing in the 1978 Democratic gubernatorial primary to Bill Clinton, according to this article.

"Faubus was elected governor of Arkansas six times and served in the post for twelve years. After the 1965 Voting Act, making it easier for African Americans to vote, Faubus political career came to an end. Attempts in 1970, 1974 and 1986 all ended in failure. Orval Faubus died of cancer in December 1994."

He was a great man -a man of the people.  He initiated some very progressive reforms and greatly improved the state of Arkansas' healthcare system.

Unfortunately the yankee propaganda is prevailing in this thread.  Where is StatesRights?

Horrible, horrible, horrible man. Unfortunately, we had had to put up with trash like him for much of the 1870s-1970s.

Well I don't know lots about the man, never really studied him. But if the first part you say is true my opinion of him shot up quite a bit. I voted option 1 for the record.

Not really a socialist. He improved the overall state of Arkansas with these measures and I generally do not oppose such things at the state level.
