I would guess if Trump is re-elected, 2032 and if a Democrat is elected in 2020, 2028.

Probably the next time a Republican wins the White House after Trump, so I'll say 2028 or 2032, depending on whether Trump wins reelection in 2020 or not.

2024 if a democrat wins in 2020. 2028 if Trump wins re-election.

Trump has a shot in 2020, but I doubt that will happen. I would have to say 2028 is the most likely option.

I'm skeptical that MN will vote for Trump or any GOP challenger to Dem president, but I think the next Republican president has a good shot at winning the state.

It's flippable in 2020, but not very--and I think that'll be the GOP's last chance to flip it in the forseeable future. 2036 or later.

If Harris becomes the nominee, 2020
But with Biden and Sanders probably 2024

Plausibly 2020 in a Trump wins scenario.

Why would it end anytime soon?

DFL winning margins
- 2000: 60k
- 2004: 100k
- 2008: 210k
- 2012: 180k
- 2016: 50k

Since 2004, GOP total has fallen 25k.

If Clinton could win Minnesota, then GOP is not winning it for a decade.

(white -- Eisenhower and Obama twice)

when the Republicans nominate someone with a temperament to Eisenhower or Obama.

This is a good answer, and I agree with it.

Depends on who the GOP nominates. It won't happen automatically, because statewide demographic trends aren't particularly favorable to the Party. Plus, as we've seen, the electorate has no problem consistently relegating Republican candidates to ~45%. So, in order to break through, the GOP probably needs to meet MN on its ideological terms. Arne Carlson was reelected by ~30%, but the MN-GOP determined never to make that mistake again. And they haven't! But if the national party wants to flip MN, it's a "mistake" they'll have to embrace. The ideology needs to shift left, or it's probably not going to happen.

After 2020, Minnesota's going to start trending (D) again. The rural areas are quickly reddening, but they're also quickly shrinking. The suburbs and metropolitan areas, meanwhile, are rapidly getting both bigger and bluer.

2024

I expect Biden to beat Trump in 2020 and a Republican to win an open election in 2024 (Biden declines to run for re-election).

If Trump breaks 48%, Minnesota probably flips. If he beats the Democrat by more than 2-3%, it’s almost impossible for it not to.

Neither of those is likely at all, especially the latter.

If Trump wins, he PROBABLY wins Minnesota. Otherwise, they will be getting another chance in 2028 or depending or whether or not he wins.
