With the June 8th, 2019 Runoff Election coming up, how do y'all see the San Antonio, TX Mayoral campaign turning out ? Can Nirenberg survive a strong challenge from Brockhouse ?

Nirenberg will likely win, unfortunately.

My older sister is still upset that Nirenberg beat Taylor in 2017.

Jesus Christ, what did Nirenberg do to make a decent turnout race so tight against a Trumpist in San Antonio? Hispanics staying home?

Good question. Looks like there's going to be a female majority on the San Antonio City Council if things keep current trend.

Yeah, but such close win is either extremely low turnout among Democratic-inclined voters, or some problems on part of mayor, or exceptional quality of opponent. Or - all taken together....

Interesting to see how Nirenberg handles the next 2 years in his 2nd term.

This was about Dems getting out ahead of their skis on social issues when a fair % of their Texas supporters are cultural conservatives.  Same situation as the referendum loss in Houston back in 2015.  Nirenberg would have won 60/40ish without the Chick-Fil-A incident.

Nirenberg lucked out..... barely.

I suggest taking a few minutes to watch Henry Cisneros views on the election. Yes, the Chick-fil-A thing hurt the incumbent, but it sounds like it was more self inflicted damage where he has a continuous problem of not laying out explanations for his actions but just overarching themes. He couldn't Hammer home the point that had nothing to do with religious values but rather just at Chick-fil-A was closed on Sunday which is a prime travel day , making it a bad fit for the airport.

It sounds like an even bigger issue was that he's had conflict with the firefighters Union which backed his opponent big time. So ironically the trumpist guy was ready to a blank check to the union if he got elected.

Interesting to see if opponents will go after Nirenberg again in 2021.

2 year terms seem pretty stupid in this day and age.

Houston had that changed with Proposition 2 in 2015, which passed overwhelmingly extended the terms of the Mayor, City Controller & City Council to back-to-back 4-year terms.
