This pretty much means Herbert is NOT seeking reelection to 3rd full 4-year term in 2020.

Thank God. He's a million times better than Chaffetz and just about the best Utah's going to do until SLC starts turning the state blue in twenty years or so.

Staunchly. Also a legit social moderate, representative of how sensibilities have changed in SLC.

Seems like a genuinely good guy who wants the best for the state. Read up a bit about him and he seems quite reasonable and honest.

Pretty much this. If a legitimate Democrat like Matheson, Gill, or McAdams were to run, I'd obviously support them, but in the meantime, go Cox!

What's unusual in supporting reasonable Republican, especially - in heavily Republican state?

In a state as red as Utah, I'll root for the least crazy Republican. That seems to be Cox.

The same for me. In the past - relatively conservative Democrat could win there too, but - not in present climate...

If I were in Utah, I'd change my registration to vote for Cox in the primary and probably vote for him in the general over even a legitimate Democrat because this is a chance to show that a staunchly anti-Trump Republican who has shown real integrity and a willingness to challenge the party line can win their primary in blood-red states.
