Guns are harder to come by, but any adult can get a crossbow, and they are very effective when you know what you are doing.

Update:

Apparently, the 5 dead were members of the same group: a medieval/knight-themed sex circle, where one old guy (the sex guru) and 4 younger women were involved.

It seems one of the women in Passau killed the old guy and another woman with crossbow shots into their hearts, before killing herself with a crossbow shot in her throat. There was no fight involved, so it was voluntary.

The 2 young women found dead in northern Germany died differently, without any crossbow present.
