Would anyone happen to have county maps for these elections? I'm curious how Adams being a black man affected the results.

Off the top of my head, there's also:

-Current New York AG Tish James, who was elected in 2018

-Maryland lieutenant governors Michael Steele (elected in 2002 alongside Bob Ehrlich) and Boyd Rutherford (elected 2014 and reelected 2018 with Hogan)

-New Jersey lieutenant governor Sheila Oliver

-And, of course, Kamala Harris and Cory Booker.

It seems like getting elected governor is monumentally much harder than getting elected lieutenant governor for black candidates.

It seems like getting elected governor is monumentally much harder than getting elected lieutenant governor for black candidates.

It's the Ivory ceiling. In some states the Lt Gov is picked by the Gov to run as part of a ticket and isn't on the ballot separately.  I know that's the case in KY where Hampton has been ditched by Bevin.  She was actually calling for all "prayer warriors" this week because her deputy chief of staff was fired (apparently she has no control over such things).
