Socially Conservative Democrat Ruben Diaz Sr., a Bronx City councilman is the overwhelming favorite to be the district's next congressman.

Rep. Jose Serrano (D-NY) is retiring due to poor health. NY-15 is the poorest congressional district in the nation, it includes Yankee Stadium.

Diaz Sr. is universally popular in the Bronx, he is a bit too controversial and conservative for the Democratic Party, but his base of poor religious Latinos and black voters adore him.

Diaz Sr. sucks. A pro-forced birth anti-LGBT rights bigot who's now defending sexual assault perpetrators shouldn't be elected to the House, let alone in the most Democratic district.

If Diaz really is running, he will have to fight for it. National office means national attention, and the abortion and LGBT groups aren't let this go quietly.

Idk, there are some trolls around here who might see this as close in a GE, I did not remember if you could be one of them.

I don't like Diaz but I hope he wins. Diversity of ideas is important.

Diversity of bigotry most certainly isn’t important; and Diaz’s ‘views’ have no place in the Democratic Party.

Of course diversity of ideas is important. That doesn't mean that someone who thinks that "sexual harassment can be a compliment" should get elected.

Shouldn't (at least - from such district). But - surely can...

Are you really so obtuse as to put 'views' in scare quotes?

Well, i usually apply "fit the district" criterion for races.. Somewhere in Deep South i could find such candidate natural and even desirable, supposedly being "the only one, who can win and hold such district". But- i doubt this is the case in NY-15.....

Why do you decide for WHOLE party? There are very different people with VERY different views in it. After all - who gave you such right??? He could be winning candidate in Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama. But - in NY-15???

Yes, which is why public-option advocate Jay Rockefeller deserved to be re-elected over and over again in culturally conservative West Virginia Roll Eyes

If Rockefeller deserves to represent WV, Diaz Sr. deserves to represent NY-15

Then the Democrats should not be a big tent party then.

Diaz should run as an Independent.

I like Diaz Sr.

I would endorse him.

He is bringing a different voice to the Democratic Party---he is a religious minority.

Having the most democratic pvi does not make a district the most liberal or progressive keep that in mind folks.

West Virginia was VERY different (and i would say - economically quite liberal), when Rockefeller was first elected. Even Dukakis and Bill Clinton (twice) won it.  So - i don't see any contradictions...

I know that. But district, which elects Serrano for many years is unlikely to be very conservative...

More idiocy (if serious). Are you competing with Skunk for biggest one?
