People who don't have Kamala Harris as Veep: any reason Biden wouldn't tap her for AG?

I do think she'd be in the running, but two potential reasons she wouldn't be picked are:

-Resistance from the left
-From her perspective, she'd be giving up what's likely a Senate-seat-for-life, so imo it's not obvious that she'd accept the position (especially if there was any doubt at all about being confirmed)

Biden has a very high opinion of Sally Yates, and she's the most likely AG. Harris is a bit of a busted flush after her failed presidential campaign.

I think this is key.  Biden really does seem to prioritize personal relationships as a foundation for his politics.  I think he can work with whomever, but given the choice I think he'd choose to work with people he personally likes.  Maybe he likes Harris, maybe he doesn't.

I think Arnold Schwarzenegger at the UN wouldn't be bad, world known figure who could easily lead in a body such as that. Would be a great pick!

The fact that so many of you put career politicians in the place of experts and qualified managers is exactly what's wrong with the average American's political imagination.

A reasonably progressive Biden cabinet, certainly not my dream, but realistic and good (also putting Senate replacements, expected not hoped for, in brackets):

President: Joe Biden
Vice President: Kamala Harris [Katie Porter]

Secretary of State: Susan Rice, former NSA Advisor
Attorney General: Preet Bharara, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of N.Y.
Secretary of the Treasury: Sen. Elizabeth Warren [Joe Kennedy, after losing the primary to Markey]
Secretary of Defense: Michele Flournoy, former undersecretary of Defense
Secretary of Commerce: Tom Nides (have to give the donor class something), Morgan Stanley executive
Secretary of the Interior: Aaron Mair, former Sierra Club President (first Black man to hold this position)
Secretary of Labor: Sen. Bernie Sanders [Christine Hallquist, which would be a bfd]
Secretary of HHS: Diane Yentel, President of the National Low-Income Housing Coalition
Secretary of Agriculture: former Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (not ideal tbh, but I'm being realistic)
Secretary of HUD: Julian Castro reprisal
Secretary of Transportation: Janette Sadik-Khan, former head of the NYC Dept. of Transportation
Secretary of Education: Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers
Secretary of Energy: Mark Jacobson, Director of the Atmosphere/Energy Program and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University
Secretary of VA: Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R) (gotta put one somewhere!) [some white person]
Secretary of Homeland Security: Rep. Henry Cuellar (controversial pick, but honestly a much better place for him than the House) [Jessica Cisneros]

UN Ambassador: Pete Buttigieg--would be awful for me, but I think unavoidable at this point
Chief of Staff: Ron Klain, Biden's former CoS

I think the trio of Sally Yates (AG), Susan Rice (State), and Michele Flournoy (Defense) is extremely likely.

Unfortunately so is Anne Finucane (Treasury).

I know that Finucane was mentioned in the Axios report and I'm certainly not ruling out the possibility of her being selected, but Yates, Rice, and Flournoy seem like much likelier possibilities for their respective positions. I just don't see Biden picking a fight with the left wing of the party by choosing a bank executive with no governmental experience for his key economic appointment.

I don't think there's a really obvious choice for Treasury (especially given that afaik picking Warren would cause a Senate vacancy for half the year), though Brainard and Raskin both seem like good guesses.

I can't help myself. Here's another cabinet:

1. State: Tim Kaine
2. Treasury: Mehrst Baradaran
3. Defense- Patrick Murphy
4. Attorney General: Sally Yates
5. Interior- Deborah Markowitz
6. Agriculture-Austin Frerick
7. Labor- Linda Sanchez
8. Commerce: Patrick Soon-Shiong
9. Health and Human Services- Abdul El-Sayed
10. Transportation- Sara Nelson
11. Housing and Urban Development- Darren Walker
12. Energy- Bill Foster
13. Education- Inez Tenenbaum
14. Ecology: Eric Garcetti
15. Veterans’ Affairs: Pete Buttigieg
16. Homeland Security- Michelle Howard

1. Chief of Staff: Ron Klain
2. UN Ambassador: Michael Bennet
3. Trade Representative- Ro Khanna
4. Global Health Security: Karen DeSalvo
5. Small Business- Dee Margo
6. Director of National Intelligence: Sue Gordon
7. OMB: Richard Cordray
8. EPA: Michael Nutter
9. CIA: Sean Maloney
10. Chair of Council of Economic Advisors: Heather Boushey

Generally, I try to avoid senators because replacing them is always messy. Michael Bennet, in my opinion, is a weak candidate who barely won against two joke opponents; Dems chances in CO are better if Gov. Polis appoints someone like Mike Johnston or Crisanta Duran. Tim Kaine can easily be replaced by a viable person like Tom Periello, Levar Stoney, or Abigail Spanberger.

Bennet had to run in 2010 and 2016, both terrible years to be a Democratic senate candidate.

this is who I think are the most likely members, not who I want.

VP: Kamala Harris

State: Susan Rice (Could also be Tom Donilon)
Treasury: Sarah Bloom Raskin (Could be Warren, but I think Biden will go with a "safer" pick)
AG: Sally Yates
Defense: Michéle Flournoy
Interior: Steve Bullock (assuming he doesn't win the MT-SEN race)
Agriculture: Doug Jones
Labor: Richard Cordray
Commerce: Tom Wolf (Governor Fetterman here we go)
HHS: [Some Health Secretary from a state that handled COVID well]
Transportation: Eric Garcetti
HUD: Hillary Schieve?
Energy: [A Scientist]
Education: Randi Weingarten
VA: James Stavridis
Homeland Security: Tony Blinken

DNI: Tom Donilon (if not State)
UN Amb: Pete Buttigieg
Amb to NATO: John Kerry

Jim Clyburn gets the ambassador post of his choice.

Guys, a lot of the cabinet is going to be agency bureaucrats you've never heard of, because those are the people who actually know how their departments work and have spent their entire careers in that field of service.

It's not going to be all the 2020 presidential candidates plus some "wild card" Republicans and celebrities.
