This is the sort of thing people talk about whenever they mention how high tax rates were in the 50s and whatnot. What they're missing is that virtually no one was actually paying those 50s tax rates because the tax code was still riddled with loopholes and exemptions. I don't disagree with this fundamentally (FYI it's definitely not unpopular), but closing all the tax loopholes that exist should be a higher priority, because higher tax rates won't mean much if that doesn't happen first.

Good point. Some penalties need to exist so fat people can be less fat. Personally I think some form of weight-adjusted health insurance plan (say, allow companies to charge fat people more for healthcare if it is accompanied by a reduction in costs for normal people)

If I were ever raped, and there was a resulting rape pregnancy that ended in anything other than an abortion, I would definitely want that to be treated as an aggravating factor to the criminal act, with the criminal sentence accordingly being longer than it otherwise would have been. And I think all applicable rape victims should have the right to demand that this be the case if desired.
