were to discover a 10 km or 10 mile asteroid which would definitely hit Earth in ca. 249 days, what would you do in those 249 days ?

I don't think I would do anything special, but that could change.

Damn, I might even continue with my job (because if everyone quits their job, chaos would break out).

I wonder if the Austrian election in September would still be held, or the Democratic primaries in early 2020 ...

Do you have a handgun or a rifle ?

Because in scenarios like these, people with weapons (like me) certainly have an advantage ...

Try to sign up for a private flight to space or gather sustenance in a storm cellar (stock up on canned goods, bring a grill in the cellar, have stockpiles of water gallons, etc.) (sane, normal)

Of what purpose would that be ?

Do you think you are "safe" in your storm cellar if a 10 mile asteroid hits ?

As long as it doesn't hot my town, if I knew where it would hit, I would move my stuff as far away from it, as possible

Didn't you watch the movie "Armageddon" ?

A rock with this size would kill virtually everything, except maybe the people on the International Space Station (who would die a few years later though because of muscle degradation in space, or because supplies are gone).

Probably acquire enough opiates to kill myself and my family.  Try to live life as fully as possible in the mean time, trying to connect with family and friends as much as possible.  And then shortly before the impact, go out softly with my loved ones.

First thing would probably be visiting my friends and family and just saying goodbye and good luck. After that, I'd probably try to make some sort of survival strategy, even if there was not much hope. I definitely wouldn't be a suicide-type or a hedonist, but I might be a looter to some extent.

I have to believe even a 10-mile asteroid would not kill everyone within the first 24 hours. People on the space station, and anyone else we sent into space would probably survive as long as they have food and supplies. Same for most people on submarines on the other side of the earth from the impact, and possibly some people in mines and caves. After the first day, the next killers would be lack of food and, eventually, lack of oxygen from all the plant death in the ensuing global winter. I'd try to stockpile food, solar panels, plants, and seeds as much as I could. Even if I wouldn't survive, maybe the space and submarine people could use them when they return.

Anyways, my main priority would probably be trying to preserve humanity to whatever degree I could, even if that doesn't include me.

First off, any such object would have to be a rogue coming in from outside our solar system for it to be detected so late.

Second, a 10 km asteroid would not end life on Earth, tho it might end human life on Earth.

Third, even if we know the projected impact point, since we'd inevitably have some attempt to deflect it even if it weren't fully successful, I'd move further inland.  However, I'd want to stay reasonably south since it would be certain that "Winter is Coming".  New Mexico sounds like where I'd likely want to go.
