To me one of the most impressive performances by a republican was Dubya’s success amping Hispanic voters in 2004. Can you ever imagine a republican getting 44% of the Hispanic vote ever again? I mean could you imagine the map if Trump got 44% of the Hispanic vote?

Trump and Rubio if they ran together, but outside of that, not even DeSantis will match it, due to the Trump ethics backlash from 2020, if DeSantis won in 2024.

He didn’t get 44% of the Hispanic vote

He got probably 38%

NM wouldn’t have been close if he got 44% of Hispanic vote

He would have lost CA by a lot less than 10!

Ever is a long time, but certainly not in the near future if the Republican Party remains rabidly anti-immigrant.

This can only happen if the Republican party starts promoting policies favorable to Hispanics (which it definitely isn't doing right now).

What policies did Bush promote that were favorable to Hispanics?

As Hispanics assimilate, yes, in the future

Bush at least claimed to be in favor of comprehensive immigration reform, which isn’t something most prominent Republicans are openly supporting right now.

The GOP just doesn't have the sort of sun belt presence it had in 2004, so even a Scott/Rubio ticket wouldn't get there.

This. Although assimilation of certain Hispanics into just being “generic Americans” will be the first ones to crossover to vote GOP.

Eventually the GOP will match Bush’s 2004 performance with self identified Hispanics. I don’t see them making inroads with urban educated Asians (or Jews for the same reasons). So with changing demographics by the 2050’s-onwards I think their best shot at improvement will be among Hispanic voters.
