To this day, I still do not understand why Collins decided to commit the biggest political suicide in recent history by voting for Kavanaugh. She could have fully and completely ensured herself a successful re-election by voting against Kavanaugh, but instead, she decided to fully and completely ensure herself a failed re-election.

You're not only forgetting that the primary exists, but that the conservatives would've likely taken her down in said primary had she voted against him.

Will the 2020 Senate election be carried out with Ranked Choice?

Collins is now predicted to lose based on the aggregate of user predictions.

I still don't think Collins will lose her seat, and people are just putting it as D becuase they want to see it go D since originally it looked to be likely if not Safe R. Like really, a 4 term moderate R incumbent who won her last eelection by 40 points in a barely blue tinged state, with a lot of independent and swing voters is just gonna lose because of 1 vote?

Yes, because it's more than "just 1 vote."

Yeah... Collins isn't winning this November

At this point I want her to lose more than Trump. At least he’s open about being sh!tty.

I'm not a staunch pro-choice advocate, but I definitely think that Collins betrayed her constituents in this respect, by voting for someone who would rule in a way adverse to their interests. And Gideon has seized upon that, as any good opponent would. It's clearer, day by day, that the Kavanaugh vote was a critical mistake on Collins' part, and may very well have already sealed her fate.

In a weird twist of events, Brett Kavanaugh himself has aborted Collins' re-election campaign. Thoughts & prayers, Susan!

Yeah, because that worked out so well for the last Republican Senator that Lieberman endorsed.

Yeah. So she’s going to survive.

(Not counting Mitch)

I want to see her and Lindsey go more than anything.

It disgusts me she’s going to survive, she’s clearly charging hard and I’m afraid will cross the fi ish line unfortunately

Fundamentals Favoring Collins:

-Collins is the incumbent

Fundamentals working against Collins:

-The national environment
-Partisanship
-Fundraising
-Polling
-Biden’s very likely to carry Maine, and by a bigger margin than Clinton
-Incumbents tend to underperform polls
-She’s on of the most disliked senators nationally

She’s always considered vulnerable and always ends up with cross party ticket splitting appeal

LMAO what world have you been living in?

Maine, please vote Susan Collins out!

I second this. As a black person, I'm fully aware of how many whites have downplayed, and continue to downplay, institutional racism within this country. It doesn't surprise me that Susan Collins, an elderly white woman who lives in a state that is well over 90% white, would be so ignorant on such issues. Fortunately, it looks like Maine is going to give her a pink slip in less than a week, after a quarter of a century.

What kind of systemic racism is there in Maine?
Why are the majority of people in Maine State Prison Black when Black people make up around 2% of the population?

Why did white Mark Cardilli get seven years for shooting a Black man in the back?

Why did Paul LePage get to be Governor here for eight years?

(Completely unrelated to the content of your post, but) happy to see you back, MAINEiac!
