Toronto has cancelled all events through Canada Day

https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/toronto-has-cancelled-all-events-through-canada-day-1.5322719

Quote
The City of Toronto has cancelled all city-led and city-permitted outdoor events up to and including Canada Day amid news that COVID-19 cases could again be on the rise in the city.

Mayor John Tory made the announcement during a briefing at city hall on Wednesday, telling reporters that the “disappointing news” is “no more pleasant to deliver than it is to receive.”

The decision comes as Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa reveals that Toronto’s reproductive number has risen to 1.1 after having stood at 0.81 as recently as last week, a development she said is “disheartening.”

Other big news is 215 bodies discovered in unmarked graves from Kamloops residential school.  While First Nation's issues sadly don't get a lot of attention, this definitely is big news and shows just how much needs to be done here.  Also probably a shock too many as while most knew residential schools were bad, I don't think many realized just how many died in them.  Be interesting if with this shocking news, what plans are of various governments and more importantly will this become a bigger issue or will like usual it be old news by election day.  One would hope former, but sadly probably the latter.
There's probably a lot more of these, as this isn't the only one. Just a question of where other graves are hidden

Victoria postpones Canada Day plans in light of residential school deaths

https://vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/victoria-postpones-canada-day-plans-in-light-of-residential-school-deaths-1.5465652

The City of Victoria is no longer planning to host a virtual Canada Day celebration on July 1 and will instead create a broadcast focused on broader Canadian history with guidance from local Lekwungen people.

The city says the broadcast will be released later in the summer and will consider "what it means to be Canadian."

"Context changed when those 215 children's bodies were discovered and they (the Lekwungen Nation) are reeling and everybody is reeling," said Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps on Thursday. "We're all just doing our best to figure out how to move forward."

The discoveries of the bodies are still on people's mind

I heard some projections suggesting that the NDP will get up to 36 seats, which is where they were before 2019, where do you think those gains will likely come from? Probably not Quebec
