If the Electoral College is abolished soon or one day, can a third party win the popular vote over the Republicans and Democrats?

Americans are really tired of the two-party system, which the EC upholds, can a third party win the country?

In order for a third party to be viable, first-past-the-post must also go.

FPTP is also what has been preventing third parties from being viable in Canada as well.

The replacement system has to involve runoffs between top two vote getters (similar to what most other countries currently use).

No I don't think that would happen at all for two reasons

1. If a large number of voters share an interest, they won't form another party(usually), they vote for the largest party that represents their interests.

2.tell the party to be on all 50 ballots which is a huge challenge.

No.

People love being edgy and claiming to be "independent", and saying they hate the two-party system, but the truth is there are very, very few actual independents so there's no way people who describe themselves as independents could unite behind a single candidate, and the usual socially liberal/fiscally right-wing trash candidates like Schulz or Bloomberg would stand no chance whatsoever.

If that candidate is good on the issues, why not?

Well, can you describe the platform of a third party candidate who could win a plurality of the national popular vote?

Hint: if such a candidate existed, one or both major party candidates would move to co-opt that candidate’s issue positions.

1992 was the only time a 3rd party could have won

Even with Trump libertarian stance, he still, like the rest of GOP, since Nixon, has been close to Russia
