No option to stay in your country, you just had to move.

To live in, Chile.  Otherwise, if this was just about visiting, maybe Peru.

Having worked in rural Brazil, probably somewhere remote and peaceful.

Belo Horizonte is amazing.

If I’m moving for comfort, then Patagonia (Argentina). But, if I’m moving to support a good social-political movement, then Bolivia (specifically, La Paz).

Either Ecuador or Chile because I have family contacts in those countries.

Uruguay, with Chile as a close second and Argentina as a very distant third

Argentina hands down. Went to Buenos Aires for a couple weeks on our honeymoon and stayed with my sister-in-law and her husband who was stationed at the embassy there. I realize going on a vacation is different than actually living there, but it was amazing, and my sister-in-law's family had zero complaints about the place

Chile or Argentina, either in the lakes region (Bariloche looks lovely, Puerto Varas would be alright) or along the Chilean coast (Valdivia through Concepcion, although Vina del Mar would be good if I wanted more sun).

Argentina seems nice, although I don't know if they'd appreciate a Brit.
