My prediction is that Al Gore's tech buddies figure out a way for him to travel back in time and change the butterfly ballot design, causing him to be elected in 2000 without a recount dispute.  John McCain beats him in 2004 though, and is reelected in 2008, but then works himself to an early grave and is succeeded by Vice President Fred Thompson.  Thompson proves to be the laziest GE candidate in history during the 2012 election, and forgets to campaign in even more swing states than Hillary Clinton did in 2016 in our timeline.  Thus, with Thompson forgetting to campaign in more swing states than Clinton, Clinton wins the presidency in 2012 and is sworn in as the nation's 46th president.
