This will be updated soon, but I’ve been very busy as of late. I have everything but the narrative portion ready. I’m kinda not sure what I’ll do, but if there’s anything or anyone you want to see, let me know.

I'd actually like to see Marco Rubio announcing a run for Florida Governor at some Point and Charlie Crist running for Senate. Crist probably has a better chance beating Betty Castor while Rubio would have a better chance beating Alex Sink.

Friday, January 23rd, 2009: President Bush quietly authorizes the US air force to use drones against key targets in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as Pakistan and Somalia. Hillary Clinton was going to break the glass ceiling.

It was destiny, and it was in the cards. It was an unavoidable reality. She had set her heart on it. And more importantly, she had her mind set on it.

As the Senator and former First Lady traveled in a black Secret Service SUV from her DC residence to the capitol building, the radio - set to NPR - aired continuous coverage of the worsening economic crisis. The bankruptcies of General Motors and Chrysler had pushed the unemployment rate in the midwest skyrocketing, breeding resentment against the President just five weeks into his term. There was growing strife in the Congo, another round of rockets coming out of the Gaza Strip, and another round of suicide bombings in Iraq had resulted in Iran threatening intervention in their western neighbor.

If it wasn't all so tragic, it'd be music to her ears. Jeb Bush had promised to restore the American market by cutting regulation and reducing unemployment. Riding a wave of populist sentiment (ironic given his own unpopularity) after the controversial bank bailouts, Bush's nostalgic platitudes about restoring Reaganomics pushed him into the White House. Yet Clinton could see through him. A lawyer by trade, Clinton had a unique ability to cut through or break down an argument. She was ready to take on Jeb in 2012, and she knew with confident certainty that she'd win. In fact, she was so emboldened that she had even worked out her campaign' motto: it takes a Clinton to beat a Bush.

But to get to Jeb, she'd need to get past Obama. The Illinois Senator had been a thorn in Hillary's side throughout the months long healthcare fight, and was a master manipulator of media to magnify and market himself to a beleaguered Democratic Party. Though his Vice Presidential candidacy in 2008 failed to turn the tide against the President, Senator Obama had successfully spun the narrative that he represented the future of the Democratic Party. This was a great nuisance to Senator Clinton, who soon found herself being labeled as the face of the past rather than future.

There was no shortage of other potential Democratic rivals. President Kerry had no desire to pull a Cleveland, John Edwards was permanently out of the game, and others were simply too old or just disinterested. Sure, Governor Schweitzer and Governor O'Malley might run. Congressman Kucinich was openly weighing a third quixotic quest for the nomination. Maybe Senators Bayh or Biden could make a candidacy, though neither of them were viewed by Senator Clinton as anything more than minor nuisances.

The 2012 election would coincide with her reelection, but this was not a difficult choice. The Senate needed young blood, but the country needed a seasoned hand. Even if she, for whatever reason, decided not to run for President, she was almost certain to retire from the Senate. To her, it was nothing more than stepping stop on her journey towards the Presidency. Though she had no real intention of seeking reelection, this was not ready to be public information. There were plenty of possible successors, ranging from Congresswoman Gillibrand to Mayor Bloomberg to former Education Secretary Caroline Kennedy, but Clinton was determined to ensure her current job remained in friendly hands afterwards.

Clinton's chief aide and bodywoman Huma Abedin had counseled the Senator to keep her ambitions vague until after the 2010 midterms. Abdein herself had recently broken up with her fiance, New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, after she discovered he had been having multiple affairs with staffers involved in his mayoral campaign. It was no secret to Hillary that she'd possibly be facing a Mayor Weiner in the primary, but the end of the Abedin-Weiner engagement ensured that Clinton had plenty of dirty laundry to keep him neutralized. Seeing as Hillary loved and mentored her almost to the point that she considered Huma "her other daughter." After Weiner's conduct became known to her, Clinton almost looked forward to smiting him and his career and actively desired a chance to run against him.

As the Senator's small motorcade arrived at the capital, escorted by a police car and followed by a second Secret Service SUV, the Clinton turned her focus from the future to the present. With the President holding a super majority in the Senate, it didn't seem as if the Senator could do much of anything. This held it's advantages, however, because it effectively stripped the Democratic Party of any possible responsibility for anything that could go wrong under his watch. Stepping out of her escort and walking towards the steps of the capitol, Hillary Clinton kept her face tilted upwards, peering at the dome that stood high over Washington as she realized that the sky truly was the limit.

Ohhhhhh

Hillary is gonna be a great position with Weiner out of the picture and without email or Benghazi as baggage.

Now another Clinton scandal is possible, but the 2012 election is hers to lose.

I for one welcome our new Hillarian overlord

Hot take: I can see Vincent Sheheen defeating Bauer in the Special Election, the collapse of the Auto Companies is going to hit South Carolina pretty hard especially in the west with the Greenville plants, the midterms are going to rock the GOP as things aren't looking good for Bush at this point.

Though early reports are unclear, it is later established that the slain President was hacked to death with machetes after his convoy was stopped by a military checkpoint as he tried to flee the capital city. The army denies a coup had taken place, with an officer acting as spokesperson claimed that the army assassinated the President after he himself had conspired to kill a high ranking officer in the country's small military force. Power transfers constitutionally, with Vieira's successor taking office hours later as soldiers return to their barracks.

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009: President Bush hosts British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at the White House, one of the first major diplomatic occasions of his Presidency. Friday, March 6th, 2009: Riots break out in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare after Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and his wife are killed in a suspicious crash. Immediately, rumors begin to swirl about whether the country's autocratic President Robert Mugabe had engineered the early demise of his strongest political rivals. Despite the unrest, the military pledge their loyalty to the President and the ruling party, ZANU-PF.

Saturday, March 7th, 2009: A Palestinian driving a bulldozer plows through a street in Jerusalem, injuring several people and destroying a handful of cars before the assailant was shot dead by a police officer.

Sunday, March 8th, 2009: On CBS's Face the Nation, Secretary of State Rice announces that negotiations with the Czech Republic and Poland over a missile shield project will restart. The planned missile shield was originally scrubbed by President Kerry, but Bush's concerns about an increasingly aggressive Russia leads to the decision to take a second look at the plan.

Monday, March 9th, 2009: Speaking with Fox News' Bill O'Reilly for a White House interview, the President states an interest in collaborating with Democrats to pass a bill reinstating Glass-Steagall, an announcement that immediately whips up backlash among the more libertarian elements of the Republican base.

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009: The Senate passes the Emergency Mortgage Security and Stabilization Act by a vote of 71-29; the bill would require a significant chunk of TARP funds to be directly sent to struggling homeowners to alleviate financial pressure or prevent further foreclosures. Besides Hillary Clinton, Senator Obama was viewed as the most likely nominee in 2012. Though he and Senator Clinton both occupied the sweet spot between centrism and American liberalism, there was only room for one of them. The Senator was keen on seeking the Presidency in 2012, having grown tired of the Senate after his Vice Presidential campaign with former President Kerry. But there were a number of variables that could complicate his ambitions.

The first was Michelle; the Senator' wife had become in icon for black women in particular during the 2008 campaign, often being compared positively to popular former Second Lady Elizabeth Edwards. While Michelle was not afraid to speak before a large crowd, there were aspects of the 2008 campaign that she did not miss. She had often drawn fire, mainly from right-wing talk radio, for controversial misstatements ("for the first time in my adult life, I am truly proud of this country") which would become the cause of considerable strain. Mrs. Obama was able to largely get past those statements, and impressed many when she went on the air with a black radio host and aired her grievances for being portrayed as a "stereotypical mad black woman" towards the end of the campaign. Yet while Michelle was known to be a sharp attorney and educated professional, she was also a devoted wife and full time mom to her two daughters, and she worried about another national campaign disrupting their adolescence.

The second obstacle was 2010; with the decision by President Bush to allow GM and Chrysler to fail, unemployment skyrocketed in several states, it was clear that 2010 would be a good chance for the Democratic Party to shave off some Republican Senate seats. Obama had come to find the Senate tiresome, and had flirted with running for Governor in 2010. Yet this would require Obama to hold off a presidential announcement. Seeking the Presidency one year after being elected would only create problems, and as a result, his gubernatorial ambitions were scrapped. He then weighed with David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett, his two closest advisers, the possibility of stepping down from the Senate entirely by not seeking reelection. Michelle countered that it was a bad idea, warning that such a decision could be perceived wrong. "It's only one more year" she counseled, as a prospective Obama campaign would need to be launched by mid 2011 at the latest.

But most of all, there was Jeremiah Wright. The controversial pastor's association with the Obamas was a major setback in the 2008 campaign that had dimmed Obama's rising star. He responded to this controversy with a speech on race relations that largely went ignored as the economy began to collapse. The internet gave rise to a number of conspiracy theories that argued Obama was an asset of a radical underground Bolshevik movement or had shady dealings with Chicago slumlord Tony Rezko. But the most egregious theory propagated against Obama by the likes of Jerome Corsi that argued the theory that Obama was born in Kenya. "Where's the birth certificate!?" became a rallying call that carried on into 2009, lingering over him like a ghost.

This could all be overcome; with the dreams of a rising generation of Democrats rallying around him, Obama was confident that he could surge past the frontrunner Hillary Clinton. Like Hillary, the Senator already had built a campaign theme that boiled his campaign down to one word:

Hope.

Monday, March 16th, 2009: President Jeb Bush and French President Nicholas Sarkozy meet at the Oval Office, where the two work out a plan that would allow the French military to rejoin the NATO Command.

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009: A car bomb in Haifa, Israel explodes outside a crowded shopping mall. 29 people are killed and hundreds more injured in the attack. Al Qaeda claims responsibility, but the Israeli Defense Force denies this and pins the blame on either Hamas or Hezbollah. Despite this claim by the IDF that has been touted by Prime Minister Olmert, American intelligence suggests the attacker was a Jordanian born militant who was radicalized by al-Awlaki.

Saturday, March 21st, 2009: President Bush travels to Kuwait for a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, in which they discuss the influence of Iran in Iraq and the upcoming election in Iran, where hard-line incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is facing a serious challenge from the reformist opposition. During the meeting, al-Maliki insists that the Status of Forces agreement that resulted in the 2007 withdrawal of almost all combat troops in Iraq will remain in place. Despite President Bush and Secretary Rice's pleas, Maliki insists that the war in Iraq is effectively over.

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009: HHS Secretary Mark McClellan begins a series of quiet meetings with top GOP members of Congress to work on an overhaul of the Affordable Care Act. Though there is clear agreement about repealing the individual mandate and opening up state lines to break up state level insurance monopolies, there remains differences over how and when the bill should be brought before Congress.

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2009: Florida State House Speaker Marco Rubio announces he will challenge incumbent Senator Betty Castor in the upcoming 2010 Senate election.

Monday, March 30th, 2009: Gallup releases the first 2012 election tracking poll for the Democratic primary.

2012 Democratic Primary (Nationwide)
Hillary Clinton: 32%
Barack Obama: 32%
Evan Bayh: 14%
Joe Biden: 10%
Brian Schweitzer: 5%
Martin O'Malley: 3%

Mate, I wanted to tell you this. I am absolutely enjoying reading this TL. Truly amazing & thoughful writing from you Smiley Keep it up!

It looks like you selected Nicolle Wallace as WH Press Secretary. How much that Woman changed from 2008 to 2020 I still a massive shock to me.
Thanks! I have to clear up some errors in earlier updates but I’ll try to resume my older pace and get this back to tri-weekly pace. Had some writers block because I consider the Jeb Bush presidency to be pretty boring compared to the other Presidents.

Similar to 2008 RL. An unpopular Bush and Clinton/Obama in the D primaries. Expect a blue wave in 2006.

Hopefully Doctor Paul challenges Jeb and does decently and runs as a third party in 2012.

Thanks! Work has me busy but this will return. I’m going to go through this timeline and “clean” it up a bit to correct typos, storyline inconsistencies, image restoration, etc.

Sanchez was guillotined by the mods a while back, so this one's dead like disco.

(I, on the other hand, was merely gulaged.)

This will return but I’m not sure how soon it’ll be.
