Why are Northeast Philly neighborhoods like Somerton, Bustleton, etc. so Republican-leaning?

I mean, it’s not that overwhelmingly Republican, but my understanding is that most of the city’s police force lives in the far northeastern corner. Still, it’s not like Mt. Greenwood in Chicago levels of Republican.

That alone does not explain it as there's many white areas in Center City and Roxborough and even Montgomery County that are FAR more Democratic.

A lot of Eastern European immigrants which lean more right in this case.

AFAIK it's more like Bucks demographically than the Philly CBD/inner city, so to speak.

Obviously each neighborhood is far more complicated than a five-word description, but my quick description of the average white person in each neighborhood would be:

Center City=upscale white liberal
Roxborough=high-education liberal white millennial/Gen Yer
Northeast=working-class white ethnic

The Northeast is kinda like the Staten Island of Philadelphia.

Martina White could be the next mayor if Philly becomes too violent and crime-ridden

Because it's home to numerous Republican institutions, like the Fantasy Island bookstore, the Middle Delaware Valley Crematorium and of course, Four Seasons Total Landscaping.

Northeast Philly's politics reflect divisions between blue-collar NE and South Philly and Center City liberals and North/West Philly POC. Always has too since it was first built up. Northeast Philly is Rizzo country. Lots of cops and firefighters, not very college-educated but also not poor, Catholic parishes and pickup trucks. Mayor Kenney and DA Krasner's weak responses to riots and small business shutdowns have angered this area a lot. This year a NE ward actually voted against strengthening the police accountability board!
